Jumping over spikes Problem

Could someone explain to me how to double jump properly i think i picked up a bad habit of pressing a and up at the same time at a bad part. I noticed i used to struggle with the level 1 final boss. my bad habit causes me to mess up almost everytime on level 9 play + thats my biggest problem.

this is all it says Jumping
 Thump while holding UP to jump Idk it just seems like on level 9 Play + (im #52 global)
it seems like either i make the second spike jump in a set or i end of not jumping on the pad but it doesnt seem to add up im hitting the right button right there and its NOT registering and this happens all the time heres proof too

like when the spikes come on you press a and up a and up to the sound it makes and the beat of the track so it should be in sync unless its humanized right there. its not registering that second note for some reason im going to buy a new controller soon maybe its just the controller or me somehow being off beat I am using a regular xbox 360 wired controller.

If you have to continue up, but you're already in the air, instead of bringing the joystick up again then pressing A at the same time, HOLD the joystick up and hold the A button when the beat occurs.

That should keep you in the air.
