Just to verify here: when hitting the first thump before the blue ring, I press press A to thump then immediately press UP on the left stick. Then I'm flying. I switch to the left lane, and normally I'd press DOWN on the left stick now, but that means I will miss the other two shields.
What I tried now:
- Press DOWN multiple times after switching, this doesn't work
- Press A when flying to try and hit all the thumps. Just can't move fast enough to the other thumps.
I'm playing through oculus VR with an xbox controller, if that makes any difference.
You stay flying by holding the A button, not by holding up. So release up as soon as you take off. Unlike when you're on the ground, you can change lanes in the air when you hold A. When you press down to slam, release the A button at the same time to buy you maximum time to change lanes back since you'll have to do it very fast.
(Also, though the game is generous about the timing, when taking off, press Up at the same time as A, not after. Having this reflex buys you maximum time for other inputs before and after the takeoff.)
So, repeat 3 times:
Up + Hold A
Left
Down + A Release
Right
I try to do exactly what you describe and it just seems pointless.
I recorded the part I'm having issues with: https://gfycat.com/PowerlessImpossibleAidi
Need to note that in this recording I started flying a bit late, but the game counted it as a succesful thump regardless since I got one of the shields down.
You don't need a blue gate to be able to slam down. Just a thump to get you in the air followed by another one to slam down on. With that in mind, have another crack at it :)
I assumed you needed spikes/blue gates, because that's where the game empathized that you should jump.
Thanks a lot, tackling level 8 now :)
