That's saying something, seeing as the mobile version hasn't had any content added in nearly a year. Even if you started playing now, some units were only available during certain updates, and I doubt they'll ever be unlocked again.
Though I've long wondered which version of the mobile release the PC version would be equivalent to. Does the PC edition have late-comer units such as the Super Devils, or the online co-op game mode the mobile edition uses to let you unlock them?
Well, I don't know what exact version it would be, but you could check the most recent update to the PC edition, and find the date the upadte was made, then just compare it to the Mobile edition's updates till you eventually find an update with a similar date.
I don't think they will ever update the PC version though, They already have mobile to deal with and such.
Steam should just removed Metal Slug Defense because of it being outdated...
I suspect the PC version was outdated before it was ever released.
It's possible that they just wanted to see if they could make a quick buck or something, it wouldn't surprise me to be honest.
I do wonder though just as an "out of topic" thing, but I wonder if there is a way to enter the access the game files and manually add the units to your deck? Cause I doubt the devs would give a ♥♥♥♥ to be honest.
I also wonder if there are hidden exclusive PC units or even units no one can get...
Unlike the mobile versions, the PC release apparently uses encrypted data files. I can't tell you how their content would compare, but I'd frankly be amazed if there's anything hidden in the port. As for the save files, I suppose it might be easiest to try copying data from a friend who has all the units (assuming the saves aren't stored on a server, as they are with Attack).
Defense ended up suffering from a glut of boss-level units coupled with certain over-powered cheap units; it became too common to see stall decks using just a few slots for low-AP units, allowing the rest of the deck to be stacked with high ones (which cost the most medals, of course). Rush decks became nearly completely unviable, as low-AP units simply feed your opponent once they get bosses out, which they were nearly certain to do before you could destroy their bases.
The KOF faction had a lot to do with this - they were released over the course of something like a year, one team of three at a time, and SNK seemed to make each new team just a little bit more powerful than the last (to encourage ongoing medal spending). Since they nearly all had low AP costs, this made all other low AP units in the game quickly useless! Benimaru was about on par with Leona, for eg (both cost 80 AP), but his equivalent of the slash attack persisted a bit longer. King was a staple of many decks due to her ability to block nearly all incoming fire (which actually made her useful in the mid-to-late battle, unlike just about everything else in her AP range). Mai and Iori were commonly seen for their high-power to low-cost ratios, as well.
Many units have been rebalalanced in the move from Defense to Attack (eg Leona is less of a glass cannon - personally she's one of my favourite units in both games), and many more units simply haven't made it across yet (Whip, the first KOF unit, was just introduced a few days ago). In particular, boss units in general are a lot less useful.
I actually developed a deep hate for KOF units because they were so strong lol.
However something funny to note, in a MSD Online match, you can actually quit the game and the game won't tally a win or lose, at least for me lol. I only use it against people who use KOF.
I wonder what they will focus on after Attack is outlived, I personally wanted to see "Metal Slug Wars" finished, but it's been cancelled unforunately.
