In the previous dev diary, we showed a screenshot featuring a Portuguese power bloc named “Quinto Império”, or “Fifth Empire”. In that case, it was simply what I chose to name my Cultural Commonwealth to show off the Spread Primary Culture interaction. The “Quinto Império” refers to the messianic concept of a universal “Fifth Empire”, most famous for its appearance in Fernando Pessoa’s Mensagem. In Pessoa’s poem, the first four Empires \[those established in the “past”] are Greece, Rome, Christianity, and the amalgamated empires of Europe. The Fifth Empire, the one yet to be established, would be a spiritually Portuguese universal empire headed by the resurrected King Sebastian of Portugal.
