What does destroying the monuments do?

I always destroy them but besides giving you currency for it i never understood if they serve any other purpose

they drop some stuff that gives you buffs

here they look kinda cool and if you destroy them you can't get them back again but they do normally drop 1/2 decent sized gem which is even better if you're running the treasure hunter trait so you're welcome to save it until then before you break them

Also if the orcs see you do it; it enrages them and widens their call radius so more orcs come or something.

At the end of the day its just a great way to say <expletive> the dark lord Sauron and all his minions.
