As long as this version has benefits to keep you playing I.E weekly challenges for better gear, online vendetta/conquest for even more fun and can challenge your friends forts. You can recruit orcs in other player worlds which is pretty neat, it is the better version.

That's irrelevant, steam version has actual things you can do before and after finishing the story, not some pointless install anywhere and play feature.
No DRM sure, but also No Online functions either.
The GOG version has NO Online Play, it was all removed.
