Healing
How do you guys deal with the god-awful healing system in this game?
You basically can't heal at all during events like the Arena Challenge where enemies are constantly spawned, giving you no down-time between spawns.
Add to that the fact you're always outnumbered 20-1 and draining takes too long to do it mid-fight.
Even outside of things like the Arena event, where you CAN heal between fights, you're looking around for rats that aren't around half of the time.
I don't get what they were going for with these design choices other than frustration.

Yep the game isn't taking in consideration the fact that you can get damaged. :D
You can only heal with drain. (Sadly it looks like the life steal gems are not working at all.)
There is a drain skill to quickly drain an enemy if your might is charged. To get it charged, put a skill into the perfect counter skill perk where you get might by countering.

It is crap that you need to invest a skill point to be able to heal that way, but it can help you a lot.

How far in is that skill? I think I'm about level 12

You can put "green jewels" in weapons to get life-leech % from damage dealt.

But for me, draining downed grunts works best (counter + "stealth" drain = full health).

Hmm only green jewels I've seen so far increase max health

and how do you "stealth" drain in the middle of combat?

If you place it in armor slot - health increase, weapons - life-leech, ring - follower damage resistance.

There's a special skill for it, don't remember the name (basically it allows you to "stealth" kill downed enemy during combat and modify it with either Fury / Extra counter / Drain).

lucky equipment. I found a dagger with healing. a bit cumbersome, but life-saving: stealth killing = full life

Stealth kills are easy (and weird) when a grunt panics, just panics, you have a chance to upright stealth kill them, yes out in the open. I do it all the time, just make someone scared by pinning them with an arrow to the foot and if you see some panic or run just go to them and go for the stealth kill/drain.

Chain Consume + Dominate Drained Enemies gives you a bunch of health and takes over up to 4 grunts to help with the fight. Shadow Strike to an Orc on a roof nearby to stun and then drain them for health.

But you are better off learning how to avoid getting hit in the first place, which becomes far more important at the higher difficulty levels.
Waiwai Oct 6, 2022 @ 7:32pm
As long as you are doing an action related to "drain/dominate", it will heal you.

There is a passive healing prestige skill in later game.

Some epic or legendary gears have healing effect.

Well... Just consider this is an assassination game with awesome smooth melee combat and special power system... There is a reason why you will have an option to analyse orc captains...

Honestly, you don't rely on healing in the later part of game, some orc captain has ability instantly empty a full health bar and push you into last chance situation. Especially Nemesis, Gravewalker and Brutal difficulty, you are supposed to take nearly no direct hit damage in combat.

I have the feeling the gems don't work. Never saw a single HP dropping into my HP pool. Have upgraded green gems in both dagger and sword.

Alright thanks for the tips.

I just need to find the will to open the game again, after dying on the 4th or 5th Captain in the Arena :steamsad:

Even Dark Souls has healing potions you can drink in combat :steamsalty:

Well... Two DLC stories of Middle-Earth:SoW do have active healing options...

It is just Tailon and the New Ring being too IMBA in the game, no actual need to rely on healing items...

Spolier alarm, don't read this if you don't want to know the ending of Tailon:
As Shelob has foreseen, if it was Tailon with the New Ring faced Sauron, Sauron would be defeated completely, and Celebrimbor would enslave Sauron. However that future of Middle-Earth is unknown, as Celebrimbor and Tailon will definitely turn into a conflict with each other on ideology after the defeat of Sauron.

Keep in mind you can get weapons that have a "life steal on a critical" effect. I don't believe you get life steal from the green gem. I think it only impacts weapons that have life steal abilities. There is also a skill that gives you a chance to critical when you are attacking. You could get a sword with this effect, use the green gem, get the skill that allows crits, and use the perfect parry skill. That would allow you to mess up every now and again while gaining health as you attack.

you can use combat drains mid fight
Kel'Thuzad Oct 10, 2022 @ 11:40pm
Ended up beating the Arena event by running away and stealthing around the edges, then darting back in for a stealth drain.

Currently working towards the 'Consume' skill for combat drains.
