First of all, GET ALL THE BLUEPRINTS FOR THE GAUNTLET, YOU CANT LOSE THOSE UPGRADES.
There's one in every outpost, one in the fortress, and one kinda in the middle of the area, another oin the oasis.
These gauntlet upgrades are INVALUABLE. I'm talking the ability to kill counter, chain kill enemies from stealth kills and executions, getting might from your shield, A SHIELD THAT SETS ENEMIES ON FIRE!
GET THOSE UPGRADES BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE. Once you have them just fast travel to Torvin and he installs them.
It took me a very short amount of time to find them, look for blue icons with a T in the middle.
Generally they are in pretty clear spots where you'd expect. If you want hints just look at the sketches.
OP, when you die, you lose all your money, all the mercenaries you've hired, AND the outposts you've conquered.
Now that REALLY doesn't amount to much. Hiring the legendary mercs isn't viable until you manage to get the skill and the upgrades to it which gives you a total discount of 50% on mercs.
That means it's only 3k to hire a legendary merc vs 6k without it.
Main source of coin is capturing outposts, as well as killing captains. Nemesis system stuff like interrupting raids or executions.
Once you have an outpost you musy hire a merc to lead it, if you don't then the orcs will take it back.
There's a benefit to hiring an outpost leader as well. You'll get a different one for each outpost and depending on the rarity of mercs you put there the better the bonus.
Off the top of my head the one I can remember is that for one outpost if you hire a legendary merc and put him there all your followers will not only be immune to curse attacks but will be HEALED by them.
So these benefits are really good.
Like I said the roguelike elements are a great idea, in fact there are some REALLY fun mechanics in this expansion. As always with ME expansions I wish there was more meat on the bones. If this was given maybe 40-50% more content (obviously a relative statement) it would be awesome.
Overall it's too short, there's a lot more I feel than in the last expansion. IMHO if there were other ways that the roguelike system was implemented it would've added MASSIVE replayability.
It already has more replayability than Eltariel, WAY more. I just with they had really run with the idea. It's kind of shocking how well the permadeath (sort of) fits into this game.
Really I think you need to play it minimum on Brutal, even then it's too easy imo. You'll see what I mean. I belueve the hardest is unforgiving? The one where you have no last chance. LC makes the permadeath totally irrelevant if you're even halfway decent at the combat.
Anyway I didn't mean to ramble a bit but that's my advice and opinion. This is WAY better than the first expansion which imo didn't qualify as an expansion in the first place. This does.
Don't worry about the perma-death. You're not penalized severely. I've died once.
Was much easier than the original game with regards to dieing.
Edit: Actually, after the first half of the game, most orc captains died in seconds.
