Adaptation is cheap.
Don't get me wrong. It is a great mechanic. I just think it is too strong. It's fun when it's out of the blue and takes something you were probably overreliant on off the table, but I have been seeing captains that have adapted to basically everything. They can't be stunned, they can't be vauilted over, they can't be hurt by executions, they can't even be hurt by ground executions. If they could adapt to my sword I would be ♥♥♥♥ed completely. Unless they are a savage and therefore already at least halfway immune to my sword, then I am really screwed.

Edit: I think that they should only be able to adapt to one thing at a time. They should be able to adapt to multiple things but it should override the previous adaptation.

The devs said they wanted to stop the button mashing combat.
So they give you adaptation.. making you do something else.

I think adaptation promotes button mashing because hitting them with your sword is the only thing you can do with some of them.

They adapt much slower on lower difficulty levels, you can vault them dozens of times before they stop letting you do it. Personally I like this mechanic

While I do like the adaptation mechanic as well, I agree that sometimes it can get out of control where they are essentially immune to everything except button mashing your sword, which is pretty ironic if that is truly why they introduced the mechanic in the first place.

I was fighting an Overlord today that in the end, the only way to harm him - since sword slashes did literally miniscule amounts of damage - was to hit him with Mighty Shot (he was immune to arrows) to set him on fire. Literally everything else he was either immune , or adapted to. Couldn't pin, couldn't execute, couldn't freeze and periodically healed himself. The fight lasted absolutely ages.

I sort of did. Totally conceded to getting to Bronze though. If I wasn't on a timer I would have really loved that I actually had to rack my mind for a way to hurt the guy; summon Graug, smash minions, Mighty Shot, repeat. Took me a while to figure out the only way to hurt him, but it's definitely a good display of the Adaption system making things interesting.
