To be honest that's what it feels like right now anyways without me doing massive damage. So again am I missing something?
I just did the quest with baranor and the captain I had to kill had a weakness to stealth attacks, but everytime I jumped into a stealth attack into him I'd just land on him as if he was going to attack but no damage is delivered. There were probably 20+ orcs in that fight, too many to deal with. I hear such good praise about this game, but it's becoming incredibly frustrating. I had to step away for a few minutes just to cool down.
I don't even think I get this upset with dark souls. Which is why I feel like I'm missing something but I can't figure out what it is, and losing patience to find out what it is myself.
I think I know what you are missing: This game is more like a sandbox. Yes, you are moving too fast. No time limits and no need to kill everything. Do quests when you feel you can take em.
So, take your time, don't rush anything. This whole game is all about hunting orcs and there are infinite number of em, you cannot kill all of em, new orcs will spawn and take the place of the ones you killed.
So, I hope I helped you understand more what kind of game this is.
Dont feel bad about rushing in the beginning, just try to let alive guys you like and when will get the Ring...
For crowd handling, well backing off may be a solution, or use environnement .Lot of cute fleas in Cirith Ungol. But if its this Black Heart Warchief, this fight is made to be messy, either focus on him to wrap it up or kill those sub Cap before for loot...
I just finished the game. Also went into it straight off Witcher 3. I completed the whole game on the brutal difficulty level which I also found massively frustrating in the beginning. 2 hits. Then you're dead. But keep at it because it does get better. There's a skill upgrade in the top line of upgrades - the last one in that line - thst gives you an extra last chance. This changed everything for me.
Also realise that for the first half of the game you're probably going to have to resort to hit and run stealth tactics on brutal. Especially when enemies are arrow proof.
Also.... Online vendettas do them. A lot. They give good XP in the beginning as well as gear that you can sell. Last, I would advise you equip white gems to armour in the beginning for added quicker XP gains. Change them out for extra armour later when you've reached a good level.
I've been playing on nemesis ever since I begun, 40 hours ago. I don't know a difficulty lower than this, so it's quite normal for me; which may be partially fault to what I am about to say: It truly isn't immensely hard.
If you're struggling on this setting, then you're simply not destined to use it. Drop to easy or normal, bud. There's no shame in it, but you'll miss out on much of the fun.
If you're willing to endure and fight, start off by acquiring more powerful equipment and looking at a good skill tree guide to ensure that you pick the best upgrades for your abilities.
Normal felt the same without dying as fast (still die pretty fast honestly). I do sorely feel like I'm missing something which sucks cause I hear so many good things about the game. I just wish there was a video to kind of explain what to do in the beginning, what not to do etc. It just seems like most videos are aimed towards mid/later game or those who have played shadow of mordor.
Funny, I actually feel like I'm missing something as well. Maybe it's my game installation. I'll try verifying the files later.
By the way, yes. It would be best if you played shadow of Mordor first. Just to get a grip on the basic mechanics, since they're quite similar in both games.
haha, I don't think my install is goofed, that'd be pretty weird though.
I may give shadow of mordor a try. I just didn't want to slog through it when I've heard shadow of war is shadow of mordor but better.
The game contains alot of mechanics to learn.
I ended up dropping difficulty to easy. I can still get knocked on my ass but it's not as common. What I noticed most is things are easy to kill, which is nice. Regular orcs fall over easy as I would like. What sucks is captains do too. Which isn't what I wanted. But I guess it'll do.
Why would you do that? Take two or three days to practice your dodging skills and overall combat, then go back to a higher difficulty. It's not that hard.
Use your glaive more often. Another great strategy, but slightly cheesy, is to shadow pull stronger orcs away from their allies and finish them with no interference on top of a watch tower, or something.
I don't think you read the rest of the thread. My beef was never dying fast. It was that regular orcs took forever to kill and you get so overwhelmed in fights where the captains are immune to ranged attacks and stealth (or at least resistant) that you're forced to fight up close. I don't really have a problem dodgingn. And it's not permanent. It's to help me grasp it. I don't think this game is gonna keep me busy for long though. Something about the game doesn't really entertain me, I can't quite place my finger on it.
