Owned orc captains randomly getting replaced by enemy orcs, why?
So I'm at the part of the game where you can recruit orc captains. I went and catpured every single orc captain save for one. While I was trying to get the last one a new enemy orc abushed me and when I checked the army view some of my captured orcs were missing and replaced with new enemy orcs. I captured a few and checked the army view again and I saw that a few more of my orcs were replaced with new enemy captain orcs.

So what gives? I know that dead orcs eventually get replaced with new ones but what is the point of trying to build up an army if the guys you capture disapear? Do I have to leave a certain number of character slots available for the enemy orcs just to keep the game happy?

All this was done in a fairly short peroid of time in the free roam and I never used the thing that moves time forward or started any quests.

I started playing this game since it came out. Once I saw this happening I stopped playing presuming it to be a bug that would be fixed. I came back a few weeks ago to check (after there's been numerous patches) but once again this still happens. As far as I'm aware this has never been acknowledged one way (bug) or another (feature). One thing I've experienced that you didn't mention is that the new enemy orcs will already have their names, tribe, class, and appearance revealed in the army screen even if I haven't encounted them yet or interrogated someone about them.

It's infuriating knowing that this was in the game when the microtransactions were in place. Those orcs you got for real life money could suddenly dissappear without warning. Fortunately the microtransactions were removed so the only thing wasted now is game time. I've had it happen to one of my legendary orcs which is what caused to me to really notice it.

The only thing I haven't checked (and am too lazy to as it would required writing down the names/titles or all the orcs in my army) is if the orcs are moving to other regions and the devs didn't put in something to let you know. I know enemy orcs can follow you to other regions.

The first game had an annoyance similar to this. When you tried to capture every single captain in the first game there would be several slots that would NEVER repopulate making it impossible to get every single captain on your side. Good to see they ♥♥♥♥♥♥ it up again.....

That's intentional. You're not supposed to be able to capture ever single captain, if you could do that, then there would be nobody for you to fight on the map.

the game's set up so that you can always be hounded by someone through the nemisis systgem, if that can't happen, then you're missing one of the biggest draws of the game.

Generally leaving three captains as enemies will prevent your captains from vanishing. For a safe bet though, i only take the fort, and then maybe half of the roster. Then use various tricks to clump all my orcs to one side, with the enemy orcs on the other side.

I get that it would be pretty dumb if I could capture all the orcs and then just sit there with no enemies but I thought the game would communicate things better. Like having orcs show up and kill some of my guys to take their spaces kinda like when you die to a generic orc and there isn't any space.

The way it is set up now seems more like a glitch than an intended game feature, especailly considering the new orcs are automattically revealed instead of the usual way how they start hidden.

I don't think I actually ever encountered that in SoM. It's been a while, but if I remember right I was able to capture every captain available. I may be wrong I'll have to check when I have the chance.

If you re read what I wrote I explain it quite clearly, because one person claims to have not had the issue doesn't invalidate that this was a problem.

I just had it happen where, after a long hard fought battle to wittle down an enemy captain that ambushed me, I managed to beat him down enough to recruit him. I then check the army screen to put him as my bodyguard, and whaddya know, HE'S NOT THERE. So, thinking maybe it hasn't loaded properly, I fast travel, exit the menus, go back in, and still not there. Mind you, he was also a lvl 80 legendary, so I was better off killing him, but I thought having him in the army would be better. In another instance, having already successfully recruited one of the big Ologs, I managed to get him in my army and appointed him as a bodyguard for a warchief. Then as I'm traveling about, I get ambushed by two orcs, kill them, check the army screen, and instead of my Olog captain there, is now one of the enemy captains I just killed.

It seems one of the bugs they never fixed was the slots taken up by dead captains not clearing out fast enough, or even alloting space for extra captains in the region. Major disappointment.

I mean honestly....stuff like that is frustrating as hell. BUT, it's still an incredible game. The first one was already amazing, the second one outdoes it somehow.

I wouldn't have bought the game when it first came out, due to microtransactions and all the other nonsense, but they fixed it up really well. Just my two cents

Oh i don't doubt it is great, both, yet when i put work into something i want to reap too.
And that's pretty much a nogo bug for me and game passing reason.

It definitely puts a damper on feeling invested in your army. One of the main selling points for both this and the previous game was seeing these orcs develop through the nemesis system. That they still haven't addressed this at all (to my knowledge) causes me concern.
1) Investing any resource in a captain is a waste of time, they will 100% die fairly quickly. Save your coins to upgrade items instead. Just capture as many captains as you can, their stats and skills are pointless because they die so fast anyway. Numbers over quantity.

1a) Troll captains are the exception, always prefer Trolls as they easily 1 shot grunts.

1b) Never get more then 1 siege option for a captain, they will die soon anyway and you will lose your money. Only get an option just before an assault, preparing in advance will be a waste of money as they will just be dead by the time you do an assault/defence.

2) You cant secure a region so that only your orcs are on the map, your captains will randomly disappear (not even die, just vanish) and get replaced by enemy captains. Taking over a region is like running up an endless sand dune.

2a) Ive left a region where i had 80% of the captains and the fort, come back after completing a different regions quests and i had perhaps 30% captains left

2b) If you get too many captains they will start to rebel, you can have 3-4 of your captains turn on you at once in the same ambush. This would be super neat if it was rare, but this will just start happening constantly once you have too many captains in a region.

Conclusion
Fun game. Combat system is very nice, only a few annoyances (for no reason only some attacks from grunts can be countered, frequent played stun chains).
Super potential-filled region capture/captain building system is self defeating and ultimately an empty frustrating and disappointing experience.

Uh, dont know if its necro at this point but dont understand the first part, about captains dying quickly. If its the "i travel to another region and my captains in others ones die" the issue has been solved a while ago. For the siege thing if you dont let them bleed (sometimes they are insta executed but its quite rare) you can easily have no losses.
Well its probably necro aniway, rest in peace. I hope
