Why do I have a gay orc?
Found him in the desert. He's fire/frost/arrow-proof and good in a fight so I made him my regional Overlord, but he speaks in an offensively-exaggerated "gay lisp". It's not subtle, either. He sounds nothing like the other Orcs in the game. Is he Deranged? I don't think I ever shamed him or killed him. The heck is going on here?

Orcs regularly threaten to violate your corpse and this is what offends you?
😁

Why does it even matter, dude?

No, he doesn't threaten to violate my corpse. He doesn't threaten to violate any corpses.

That's part of the problem.

The first time I saw him, he was talking about throwing me a surprise party or something. And whenever I send him to the fight pits, he says wimpy stuff like "I don't know how this will end". He's not a macho, corpse-♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bear orc, he's a lisping, vegan-kombucha-sipping fairy orc, and it's really bizarre.

Is it a derangement? What is going on?!

Because after seeing 3,000 or so Orcs between this game and the last, there's suddenly one lone orc who acts completely out-of-character, and that begs an explanation...?

I usually say there are no dumb questions, but sorry, dude, yours is kind of dumb.

I've got one like that too, in Seregost. I don't think it's a random Uruk, I think it's one of the few pre-made Uruks that are guarenteed to spawn in everyone's game (Zog, Bruz' siblings, The Tower, etc). If you're looking for a lore reason, however, I'd probably chalk-it-up to their conditioning as part of Sauron's army. The orcs, by-and-large, don't like the Dark Lord. In-fact, most of them despise him but Sauron keeps them in-line because he keeps them terrified of him. I don't think this particular Orc is homosexual, per se, but I will concede that he falls outside conventional orc behavioral norms. I'd guess that, like any species, orcs are prone to mental instability (not to say that homosexuality is unnatural or anything like that).

Orcs have the potential to be just as clever and crafty as any other race. That said, it's also plausible that he's not really the person he appears to be. Orc 'culture' is one of violence, brutality, and competition. It encourages the strongest and most capable among them to rise to positions of authority. Since you said he's a capable fighter (capable enough for you to make him an Overlord), I'd say that it's possible that he created this persona to lull potential rival orcs into underestimating him. After all, who are you more likely to take seriously: a hulking uruk with twin cursed battleaxes who boasts of his strength and ferocity, or an uruk who approaches with a smile on his face (and a dagger behind his back)?

Well, I'm less looking for a lore-reason* and more for a metagame/behind-the-scenes reason, but thank you. That was helpful.

So he's a premade orc? Like a comedy easter egg, I guess? That's good, because I've been kind of worried to use him in fights, and while being premade would make him technically irreplaceable for purposes of my campaign, I wouldn't feel as bad getting him killed by accident.

*lore-wise, the game's already blackwashed Harad (Baranor should have been protrayed by a Middle-Eastern actor) and butchered Shelob (talk about "missing the point" of a classic literary villain!), in addition to the many many problems carried over from the first game, so I personally choose to just accept "WB lore" as is and not ask lore questions. The games are fun, so I focus on that.
Jackie Daytona Aug 1, 2018 @ 5:01pm
Actually, the game's depiction of Shelob isn't that far-fetched. If you read the Silmarillion, you'll know that Shelob is the daughter of Ungoliant; a massively powerful spirit being of darkness and hunger that almost succeeded in devouring all of the light and warmth in the world. Ungoliant was so powerful that she would have killed Morgoth (Sauron's boss and a SERIOUSLY powerful individual) if his Balrogs had not saved him. As her daughter, it's not beyond the realm of possibility that Shelob would have inherited a great deal of power. While I really don't think Shelob should be able to see the future, I will admit that I don't think her ability to shapeshift, stand toe-to-toe against Nazgul, or communicate telepathically breaks existing Tolkein lore. A bit far-fetched, mind you, but not necessarily lore unfriendly.
How does a lisp define sexuality anyways. Unless he is bending over his mates for warchief promotions, it's just a lisp. lol

I know which orc you're talking about. The voice actor is Kumail Nanjiani and he is literally the worst orc voice in the entire game.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gi7jt-RvbBM

Even conan did an interview with him and even he said it's the worst.

Sounds like a party Urukdude. Shouldn't that be vegan-kombucha-sipping ELF orc as this is set in Middle-Earth. Does calling him names enrage him by the way? :steamhappy: Let me know if that works haha.

I came across a fat smallish loudmouth Uruk captain with I think it was... yes it was blond reddish hair. Kept shouting at me that he was the best Uruk ever in the history of all Uruks and that the fight was going to be great. It was going to be fantastic oh and he was aking me to stop pursuing him because it was a discrace for Middle-Earth.
