Are there towns to relax in?
Guys I liked the first game but it felt claustrophobic because there were no safe towns or bases to relax in. Does this sequel have places you can chill in?

yes, the fortresses you capture and the haedirs

even in shadow of mordor the haedir where safe spots, nothing could attack you ontop of those towers.

I never hang out with my captains in the fortress, because of the potential for betrayal. Maybe I'm playing it too safe.

I don't want to hang out on top of those towers. I want friendly NPCs and AI in safe environments (towns, fortresses, outposts).
I felt uncomfortable and choked in Mordor because there were no friendly areas to walk around in.

fortresses you caprture are pretty safe to walk around in as stated above, unless one of your guys is planning to betray you, but then you have all that back up to help you fight them off aswell, so still pretty safe

after 500 hours, my captains betrayed me only outside of fortresses, never inside

Oh, they can. I've had a rebellion in Gorgoroth. Multiple betrayals in Nurn, and one in Seregost.

I've even had ologs ambush me right at the citadel itself! Like... how did my boys miss that?

From my experience, it is never the guys roaming the fortress, always the potential of the ones that you can't see.

Some human fortresses would've been nice. Some villages and what not where you can hang out with civilians. But nah it's all dark and gloomy. I'll just stick to Mad Max, Assassin's Creed, The Witcher.

you are in mordor at the rise of saurons power, the whole point of mordor is that its chock full of orcs and ulogs aswell as the dozens of dangerous wildlife. but if you just want to sit somewhere (not sure why all the fun is outside of the forts) when you capture a fortress its safe to hang out in and look at your captains, although i've been ambushed by some orcs but they're easy to kill since your fort is full of your own orcs.

The first level (Minas Ithil) has a section with human inhabitants and no enemies.

Not for long

One does not simply open up a bed and breakfest in mordor
