Stealth Drain causing heads to pop?

Before, I could stealth drain and they would be turned. Now their heads are popping. Not sure if it's related to some ability upgrade I unlocked or what. There's so much more state management in this, compared to SoM, that it's still a bit hard for me to take it all in.

Sounds like a skill upgrade. Just go back to domination if you want. I use the drain skill, because if you have Vendetta Gear the drain will charge your shots.

its either a skill or one of your items, as i remember there being an item that caused heads to explode after brand/drain

Was poring over my item colection and noticed that it was the Legendary Dagger of Horrors that was causing it. I didn't realize items could trigger this.

Heads pop at first in the game. Later you get the domination skill which turns them without head popping.

If you have the turn ability then everyone you drain will turn. If you have the "get elven arrow when draining" or "full health on drain" then heads go back to popping.
