Why is this game so big
It literally said i have twice the amount of room i needed to install it, then it stopped at 99% and said i ran out of room and then reset.

For some reason, ALL the movies are pre-rendered, the scenes are not in game that would have saved about 75 percent of space. Why? Who knows.

The cinematics really aren't all that big. Only 34GB for the entire cinematics folder even with the 4k cinematics pack installed. Additionally, the entire sound folder including all the different language files is only ~8GB.

The real bulk of the file size of the game (89.5GB without HD pack and 105GB with it) is in the .arch06 files in the main game directory. These are the game's textures, maps and their lighting files, all the various Uruk parts, pieces, armors and weapons used by the nemesis system and those available as drops the player can equip including those from the two DLC tribes, etc.

im amazed how people still use 1tb or less hdd. especially for this game

Interesting how the files worked, tbh. I had no idea what the arch o6 files were and had only been aware of the bloat in movies because of Dragon Quest 11 having pre rendered scenes that made it a deceptively large install. Same goes for final fantasy 15, too. Thanks for the info :)

This isn't the only big game people will ever install, and I doubt there are many who have a 1+ TB SSD. Unless you're gonna slum it and install your games on an HDD like a caveman :)

Which literally makes no difference at all as long as the OS runs on an SSD. I have the game on an HDD and even fast travels between maps takes less than 5 seconds.

Maybe not spread ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. :)

I have a discussion thread about the size of the game here. https://steamcommunity.com/app/356190/discussions/0/2534848209933443932/

The hell are you even saying? The game is gonna load from where the game files are. By that logic I could install the game on some ancient USB 1.0 HDD and have it run just as well. Think before you post.

If both the OS AND the game were on an HDD, THEN it would matter because the OS would also be taking up performance. It's not loading 100 gigabytes worth of data all at once.

If this game is on a regular run-of-the-mill non-OS non-external 7200rpm HDD load times will be the same for this game, and if not the difference would be ridiculously small. Don't start taking ancient hardware into account like USB 1.0 because that's just silly.

I can count the amount of games that I know of that truly benefit from being on an SSD in the same scenario on one hand. Battlefield for example.

My only problem is that you outright call installing games on an HDD being a "caveman" which makes no sense when it's still the most efficient storage method to install games by comparison.

mine is installed on a 1TB HDD and the only long load time ive noticed is when you first load your save game from the main menu.
