GTX 1080 ti died after several crashes !!!
Because of permanent overheating the graphics card by Shadow of Mordor, my graphics card died today. 1000 Euro gone. As you can imagine, I'm a little enraged now !!!

I use a normal desktop pc with a GTX 1080 ti grafics card. The game ran for nearly 400 hours without any problems. After the gameupdate to v 1.09, I played about 100 hours without any problems. But suddenly I got this problem too. Game crashed every 10-15 minutes. I tried a new NVIDIA driver, reboot, nothing helped. Then I've read about the overheating problem and that it could be solved by enabling the NVIDIA debug mode. And really, it helped. No game crashes anymore. I don't know why it began after 400 hours of crashfree playing. But the solution for me was the NVIDIA debug mode. The NVIDIA debug mode reduces the fatorysided overclocking of the manufaturer to the NVIDIA default settings. With these settings, the grafics card is getting not so hot anymore.
Howto: Rightclick on the NVIDIA tray icon and choose the NVIDIA system control. Under the menu item help you will find the debug mode option.
If you get an annoying request on game start, if you want to use the current grafics card settings or the autodected, you can remove it by deleting the specific files in your windows user folder under \AppData\Local\WB Games\Shadow of War. There should be a file that contains the shown error message. This you have to delete.

If it doesn't work for you, try to uninstall afterburner (maybe it overclocks the grafics card too).

You are funny. So you have no idea how a graphics card works and you even give others really bad advice how to break their graphic card (debug mode), but its all monolith's fault... kids these days...

overheating problem? what did you use to see the temps? using a 1060, 3gb gpu and it runs fine all games. brand on gpu , and did you alter the voltage? why not just go with nvidia drivers updater in the geforce experience to get the latest drivers that work with your gpu if you dint know what driver or gpu you have

xD how can a 1080ti die from overheat? u must have had a rmisscreation with the worst asic rating i guess it was in the 60-70% mark? those ones rlly suck coz they need more power to compensate that they cant distribute it so well as 80+ asic and if u have a low asic rating like i have mine is 46 it shouldnt be hot because those ones dont clock as high from default but they save u abit power.

im playing this currently with a 280x msi(replaced fan's with Accelero Xtreme IV) and i play at 70-75 degree using x4 resulution for 1080p and everything works fine i couldnt max out the settings but this game doesnt look much better either i just compensate with x8 supersampling from the amd settings + sweet fx setting.

RMA the device back to the manufacturer with proof of purchase. It's most likely a production flaw.

The graphics card was an EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti SC2 ELITE . I think, there was a problem with one of the fans and the graphics card didn't noticed it. Maybe a factory fault. Second problem was the airflow of my Thermaltake LanBox Lite case. I should have exchanged it with my brandnew Corsair Carbide 500R that I bought some weeks ago, but I loved the LanBox so much for its small dimensions. ;o)
Now I ordered a new Zotac GTX 1080 ti AMP and I switched the case. The old EVGA will be returned to the manufacturer. :o)

The reason I was enraged about Monolith is the bad error message. A user cannot know, that the game crashed because of an overheating problem. If you look, how many players have these crashes, there must be something wrong with the source code of the game (there are so many obvious bugs in this game).

@Bomber: Wannabes like you are really an epidemic these days!

if that really was the reason for your graphics card being toasted, i would guess it was a factory defect..

There was something wrong with the card or cooling. Regardless of how hard a game pushes a card it can't break it unless something else is wrong. A properly functioning/cooled card should be able to be pushed to 100% without overheating.
