How to consume a captain ?
So in one of those challenges from the past, I have to dominate a captain. But in the secondary objectives, I have to consume him also. The problem is everytime I try to use the consume combo (with enough might) he justs takes my hand off of him. And if I do it when he is broken, then it dominates him and the secondary objective is failed.

Can anyone help me out here ?

dominate is a toggable extra to consume, look in your skill tree you see each skill has 3 different advancements available, you can purchase all 3 but can only have 1 active at a time.

it can be done with fight pits but all captains has a limit, + u can put gem that gives them 5+ lvl when u dominate them, after that one or 2 fight pit fights and they gonna reach their max lvl

I believe he has to be in the broken state (green) to be able to consume :) also as far as I know you cannot do this from afar... you need to be in combat up close :)

hope this helps!

p.s make sure you unlock the skill first

I just managed to do so.
He was broken, I pressed C.
I think I tried it before and don't really know what was different from my other trys, but it worked.

Consume on captains works only when they are broken

I can't say for sure if it is what i did slightly differently, or just that they had some bug in this originally that they fixed, but...

for me, what seemed to work is going to the first story skill (Drain) and changing from the Dominate mod to a different one. When I went to Consume the guy at the end of the fight, it did still dominate him at the same time even without the Dominate mod on the Drain ability, and I got the secondary objective as well.

I don't know if this actually mattered, though. That skill mod seems to be more geared towards the Drain on normal enemies, either from afar by holding B, or the stealh variant of it. But the Consume ability is definitely the A + B combo, it seems like you know that already though, so I'm not sure if it was changing this skill mod that made the difference or if something else wasn't set up right that was causing it to not give you credit for it.

Just make sure that when you end the fight when he is broken that you Dominate him using that Consume combo ability, not the regular Drain or a Stealth Drain

Because he isn't broken...

Dominating captains and grunts are two different abilities.

Dominating captains uses the same abilities as the ones you use to dominate grunts. There is that additional skill you have to unlock in order to be able to Dominate captains, but you can still do it even with a Drain from a distance if they are broken. Or a Consume.

The point is that the ability you need to use to get this secondary objective during this mission is the Consume ability, the A + B combo ability. But you can only use it on a Captain if they are Broken. However, doing so will also Dominate them... it seems like the OP wasn't able to get the secondary objective because the Dominate would override the plain Consume or something. But anyway I just did the mission myself and that's what worked for me.

Knife and fork usually. Unless he's well marbled. In which case a spork might be adequate.

This is late response but the quest for celebrimbor's memory to get the consume objective you have to use the dominate finisher that consumes might, not just the regular dominate

combat drain skill, not the normal drain. and the captain has to be broken.
