How to Fight Olog-Hai? (the giant troll guys)

when you first meet one of these things it tells you some helpful stuff but i cant remember some of it

it says something about countering them but every time i press counter when the blue prompt comes up i get hit.

It also said something about riding them while semi steering them while you stab them but I havent gotten that to work. is it the graple button or do i need to dominate/drain first (hold B) ?

Basically you have to time the attacks right so you dodge through their legs, then stun them, then climb onto their back, stabbing away.

Shooting them in the head with a charge shot will daze them so you can start repeatedly striking them. I never really used the riding mechanic.

Don't bother countering them. Dodging is the most effective solution, they're extremely slow with their attacks.

yeah i checked that one. i could never find the same tips that were orginally shown.

also to most of the other replys, i know going under their legs and mashing X works but i would also like to have other options. preferably ones that look bad a** like riding one :D

Wraith stun or headshot stuns them. Then you just pound on them or grab to ride them around.

I'm having a hard time dealing with gangs of Olog-hai on top of the increased agressiveness of the regular Orcs, and i'm just playing on Normal.

Yeah, i can remember there was somthing about "countering" in the first introduction of the Olog-Hai. Now i can not find any information about that in the guide.

Also the attack with the blue indicator is very irritating, sometimes it just appears for like a few milliseconds with no chance to dodge.

Whats also strange is, that the wraith stun does not work on them most of the time, even after diving thru their feet and attacking from the back... Not sure whats going on, or what i am doing wrong.

Wraith stun that freezes them does a fair bit

Sleath attacks make them super low


Also if you mount one ride them into some explosive barrels

So you can only wraith stun them at certain times. Most of the time, it gives you the regular dodge prompt (through the legs or whatever), but about every 3rd or 4th time they swing, it gives you the wraith stun prompt instead. As far as I know, that's the only time wraith stun works. Then R1 (or whatever key grab is) to climb, and stabby stab staberson away.

For the Olog grunts, 3-4 headshots with bow will kill them. For the bosses, just ride a graug.

There is a pattern to the dodges, stuns, and mounts, so if you get one alone they can be really easy to kill, and it is a good way to practice it.

The tips you got when you met the first one just told you to dodge and counter them, then stun and mount, stab and drive it into other orcs.

Most of it's attacks have the red icon which must be dodged. Only the quick jab has the blue icon which probably means you have to perfect counter it, but it is pretty quick and the range is short, I've yet to successfully countered it.

I have no clue when does stun work, it made me wonder if I'm supposed to hold E to do some magical work to stun it, but no, holding E gives you the drain animation and then nothing. I'm not sure if stunning it from the back has a better success rate.

So far the quickest way seems to be charged arrows to the head or explosions, but I've not unlocked many skills so maybe there are better ways later.
