why would you not want to use the high res textures? even at 1080p they look better.

Because its Ultra textures not witht he base game, but is it meant only for 4k.

You kind of will need them to make it look decent at that resolution

Ok you seen the memory use on GPU tho? goes from about 30% to over 100% on my 1080. so from about 3000mb to well over 8000mb

no where does it say they are only meant for 4k. all it says is that its a high resolution texture pack. AGAIN higher res textures look better at any resolution. the higher the resolution then the more they are needed though.

Well it says "ultra-high resolution textures" And we all know ULTRA-HD is 4k but look at the memory usage, no way does it go from a small 3gig mem usage to a whopping fkin 9gig for something as small as 1440p. Not evedn my gtx 1080 has enough mem to use it apparently.

Yes. That's what happens when you have higher textures. That's why most games will offer the separate option to download -- free -- the texture pack. It's because they generally need a lot more VRAM than would otherwise be normal and a lot of people would automatically switch to Ultra HD textures if it was included and complain when their game started stuttering like crazy.

You can't get around VRAM in games when using what the industry terms "High Res HD Textures." It's not a problem with optimization in situations like this but literal terms of computers requiring a lot more VRAM than is standard.

You can use higher textures no matter the resolution and see the difference but generally you won't be missing much from "Ultra HD textures" to the base High or Ultra texture settings.

There is a case, however, for getting more from higher detailed textures at higher resolutions than at lower resolutions but you won't notice too much of a difference from 1080p to 1440p.

you are reading what you want to into that and just making up nonsense. it says "High Resolution Texture Pack" and all that means is that the textures are a better resolution. even if it said ultra high resolution it would still be referring to the textures themselves. AGAIN higher res textures look better at ANY resolution but they are more important on the higher resolutions of course.

Also the only mention of 4K is in the cinematic pack:

The 4K Cinematic Pack renders cinematics at 4K resolution.
Experience the epic story of the Bright Lord and the war for Mordor brought to life in breathtaking detail.

Totally difference to textures.

It says "High Resolution Texture Pack" it doesn't say anything about 4K and "Ultra HD" is a marketing term for 4K TV's. It doesn't exactly translate to monitors although it can do but only for monitors and TV's.

well we have one idiot here in another thread claiming to run ultra textures on his 1gb gtx 750. lol

He's probably got VRAM limitation on if it's a setting in the game. This basically caps settings so they don't exceed your VRAM. There was a notorious case from Digital Foundry in Mirror's Edge Cataclysm when they messed up when comparing the R9 390 to the GTX 970. The game had VRAM limitation enabled which curbed the settings to downgrade it to 4GB VRAM.

3440x1440 Maxed Out FXAA, Yes, FXAA,
Not going to tell why here, I got no issues though.

that shii111it was klear as krystal, 10100MB .
This game, why the Fauck you lyin ' .
♥♥♥♥♥ shows me 8.5GB VRAM,
what lies, also Ultra is Yuak..

So I made my game look A1,
let us see who can guess what I did .

The fact it uses over the MAX mem of a 1080 to go to ultra textures should tell you its 4k... going from 3 gig to 9 gig is not a small increase is it...

It's a no brainer download the HD pack, it looks much better, especially when running around things feel more clear and fluid, the forest and more crisp aswell, and if u are running 4 pre rendered frames ( Only for powerful pcs) it's buttery smooth and clear.

p.s some people will have better attention to detail then others and appreaciate it more (Studies game design)

My penis got erect when I saw a game for the first time nearly maxing the memory of my 1080 TI.
