So if you normal log into your computer with an Offline account that may be the issue, although not entirely sure just a thought.
Am I not running Steam as administrator already? I'll try it and get back to you.
-right click the game in your library and go to properties
-pick the "LOCAL FILES" tab and press "BROWSE LOCAL FILES..."
-This should pop up the ShadowOfWar folder now open the x64 folder
-right click on ShadowOfWare.exe and choose to Run as administrator.
this. You dont need an MS account to run as admin, just a local account with admin rights. By default your C drive has limited permissions to protect it, so you have to explicitly state that you want an application to run in admin mode. I think this is stupid for a game though, as you shoudl rarely need to run an application with admin priv
I figured this out:
instead of right-clicking and selecting "Run as Administrator" on the .EXE, go into the .EXE properties,
and in the Security tab, click the "Run as Administrator" checkbox.
Click "Apply". Click "OK". Exit the .EXE's properties.
Reboot the computer.
Run the game.
Go to the advanced settings, and enable Large Page Mode.
Apply settings.
Reboot just for luck.
Voila. It's done. Basically, just running the .EXE with Admin privileges once in order to turn the setting on won't do, since the game needs to use admin privileges each time in order to use large page files.
It might reduce stuttering ingame as you move around in the game world. And it needs to stream in new assets into memory.
I worked out it was because the lock pages in memory option wasn't enabled in group policy.
Solving this problem will depend on your version of Windows and whether or not you have access to Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc).
Start here and follow the steps to enable the lock pages in memory option:
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms190730(v=sql.105).aspx
If that works, then great, you should be done and the option should work in SoW. If however you find that you can't follow those steps because you don't have gpedit.msc, then you will need to follow these steps first:
https://www.askvg.com/how-to-enable-group-policy-editor-gpedit-msc-in-windows-7-home-premium-home-basic-and-starter-editions/
Once you've successfully done that, then go back and do the steps in the first link and it should work.
You may have to restart before the new group policy takes effect. Then just activate large page mode in SoW and you're done.
Goodluck. You should notice some improvement in performance when you're done.
