Poor Combat System, Refunded
The reviews are here and they are saying that the combat system isn't as good as the first Shadow of Mordor.

Also combat's a hot mess. Every fight inevitably turns into a brawl which doesn't suit the "flowing combo" Arkham system -- if you've got 20 guys piled around you it's impossible to accurately hit a specific one and it gets frustrating as heck. The Orc monologuing during combat adds an extra level of aggravation: sure, it's great in theory and nice to get a bit of backstory for the guy you're about to marmalise to start with, but it grabs the camera, is unskippable, interrupts the flow of the battle, leaves you facing in a random direction with no idea what's going on, and sometimes you can get half a dozen of them in the space of a minute or so. I have had to pause the game and walk away from it a few times out of sheer frustration.

The game is basically a button masher and doesn't have a combat system as anywhere near as good as The WItcher 3 or Dragon's Dogma. Enjoy grinding for 40-50 hours with a combat system that isn't as fun as other games, I thought Shadow of War was goingto be better than the first game but the game suffers from sequelitis.

Lol, combat has been more improved making it less button mashing like in SOM. Orcs now adept to your fighting style making it less of a "spam the X & A button" kinda fight.

Lovely how people rely on Johnny's opinion from Eurogamer who constantly dies to low level uruk captains.

Dude, how many times are you going to buy the game, find something you don't like, and then refund it? We're up to what, 30 times now?

Just stop trolling.

You do realise we have almost a hundred hours of footage of the game on youtube right? We know the game's combat is the same as the first with new abilities and enemy types. Your quote doesn't even say what you claim it says, they're saying the combat isn't like the Arkham games due to the amount of goons you fight at any one time.

Just hate on the microtransactions instead. That's something we all can agree is factually cancerous.

That's 'A' review.. not reviews.. where are the other reviews you speak of?

Who the hell listens to eurogamer aswell?
No offense but most people don't give a crap what a euro person says let alone a eurogamer.
Please stop acting like an angry peasant with a pitchfork and no torch.

git gud bro git gud
EVERYTIME i see reviewer/streamer play, they just not good enough playing the game, i mean talion's sword glowing all the time but never using the finisher XD. of course they'll get surrounded by orcs, they just dont kill them in the right time. Instead they use the bow too insta kill orcs, worst part is they using it at close range XD.

And they don't know how to build combos properly, at the end of course the game becomes the button masher to them. Idiots

I just had a coffee in case that anyone cares.
Dragon's Dogma and The Witcher 3 has a much better combat system and it doesn't show button prompt on screen, I understand that they are aiming Shadow of War at casuals but they could at least add more realism to the combat.

It worked with Batman because that's a comic book universe, the combat system was originally designed for that game.

Geralt never had so much opponents in the same time.
As for Batman, It is Middle Earth where trees and dragons speak elves can live million years combat system fits perfectly.
You can turn off button promt at least you can in SoM.

The Witcher 3 had good combat? I'm not defending this game. There's definitely issues in the first with execution/ability targeting. Trying to hit the boss but hitting one of the 100s of surrounding orcs (though you can say it's realistic as you're swarmed by 50 enemies trying to fight a War Chief, and have to fight through them to do any real damage to the Chief rather than just kill the Chief in 30 seconds and have them run). Better targeting would have been nice for the sequel but I can live with it. The Witcher 3 though, far from the best combat. Sluggish, tons of control issues at launch, also has its' own targeting woes. Dragon's Dogma was a good example of stellar combat, but TW3 wasn't.
