how can i change regions?

i did follow the main story quite a bit and would like to go back to the earlier regions ... but i cannot find out how to do that. is this not always possible?

You have to have completed first fort assault quest in ACT 2 and the fast travel for other regions will become available.

I completed it and have no quests in current region but i still can't travel.

Try doing it from the quest tab, pick a quest in a different region and it should give an option to go there.

I see these posts are a few years old ... did anyone figure out how to travel to previous regions? I'm currently stuck in Nurnen, Act 2, conquered the tower, no missions left but the Ancient Warchief (locked) and fight pits, tried selecting quests in other regions to complete a few missed missions, but unable to get to any other region. I can view the other missions in their respective region, but my fast travel is not available. Any help would be appreciated.

You sure its not just because there are enemies around? Cant fast travel when detected...

No enemies around. I can travel anywhere in Nurnen to any of my purified towers and fast travel sites, but nowhere else. I'm stuck.

Never mind ... I just figured it out!!! I had to actually fight in the pit fight to unlock the other regions and pits!
