It'd be great if we could get their attention so if people are reading this topic then please bump even if you're not sure if this is an issue that you have.
My Captain = X
Enemy captain = Y
My Olog = Z
Y attacking X
Z attacking Y
Y deals damage to X
Z deals almost no damage to Y
X can not defend himself against Y due to only 1v1 being allowed in melee.
X is dead due to acting like a punching bag
That's some Easy Difficulty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ AI being active in fighting pit.
and if they have any traits tailord to "brightlord" temporarily changed to "orcs"
for example "last stand" applies to facing "x enemy(s)" alone
This happened to me but I think it was because I hadn't done the fort defense quest yet. Most of my good guys had been replaced by a bunch of random enemy captains that the game was preparing to use against my defense. It was pretty annoying considering I'd spent all the previous night leveling them all in the fight pits.
I also have a legendary in another zone who never attacks with his main weapon. He's an archer, who rides a caragor and spawns with two Olog-Hai's. The Olog-Hai's charge in and pin the enemy in a corner while my archer just rides around in circles until the timer runs out and neither side wins.
In the fight pits you want one with less abilitys but more reason to attack.
You will notice this stame type of thing when a orc is mounted, they will not use thier primary weapon even if its upgraded to attack except on rare occasions. Instead they will ride the mount in to attack untill it is killed or they are pulled off.
So because of how the AI is programmed, Squads can be both benifit and fault to the matches in pit fights. This is not as applicable in the game world though as all units are permitted to attack at will. Same applies to mounted captians.
You also need to do a deep investment of STUDY on your targets and your champions fighting them. Note the enemy fears, mortal weakness, Enrage triggers (especially dangerous as it makes them near unstopable killing machines) and of course note things about if they are beast slayers. Dont randomly throw your champions into fights. Choose your battles and win far more often. Yes its possible for a 15 to kill a 50+ if the conditions are right. But there are a huge number of variables in the fights that from reading above most players have no clue about.
In ending. Game needs AI rework on pit fights. All npcs should be attacking just as they would in the game world.
