Like william said you can use hammer to knock him down to use ground execution against him. That's one of pretty good move i use, when i play undead set with Helms hammer. (Or none set gear which you can equip some random hammer)
If you still have trouble with that guy then use bodyguard. Bg are much better than iron guard or spider summon, because captain has high hp, dmg depend on your lvl and his upgrade. Iron guard give you only 4 weak grunts and spider poison enemy but die after single use, which is pretty useless against large of enemy forces. Bodyguard can be summon anywhere even in overlord room, that's quite nice that you don't have to fight some op captain alone and risk of dying. My favorite bg is a commander cuz he can summon reinforcement to distract many enemy attacks away and let you focus the priority target easier.
