Shadow of war - last change and killing move always fail on captains for me : (

I just got shadow of war, its really cool... I started of killing a few captains and succeeding in some last change moves. But then after I started doing some vendettas at some point the final kill move/last-chancers just completely stopped working.

I have been chasing this dude "bolg the obsessed" and got him to zero health about 6 times now and every time I do the X,Y,A or B thing in a circle and it ALWAYS fails.

I see a big red circle with a letter in it and a bigger white circle around it. The white circle shrinks as I decide which button to press... then I press the correct button and.... bang - he blocks me and runs off. So I chase him again.

This guy has killed me 6 times - each time I get a last chance - exactly the same happens.

this is odd because I am sure I had it working at the start.

The strange thing also is that everything is in the centre - I don't see that I have to move anything with the L-stick .

Is there an exact guide somewhere? - is there a practise screen somewhere? - or is my game broken?

I have definitely pressed the wrong button a few times, but I also definitely got the right button many times too. This also happens with other captains... I am so frustrated by thins : (

What are his traits? Certain orcs have this thing called "Death defiance" or something, they'll survive an execute. Tried shooting him with an arrow? I've met one dude that was basically melee resistant so I shot him in his stupid face and RIP.

I thought it might be something like this... but I tried on others too. I fail always at both last chance and the kill on many opponents.

I just read somewhere that you don't press the x,y,a,b button instantly you have to wait for something to happen?? - maybe I am doing it wrong...

basically I see the screen, look at the button to press - there is nothing to move like in shadow of mordor, so I just press the button.... dead...

Is there some guide somewhere or a practise screen?...its odd I can't find any documentation for this part of the game.... it must be obvious others seem to do it easy!! I also can't seem to find a video example of someone doing this - except for the old game (S.O.Mordor)...

You sure youre hitting the prompted button after the bigger circle shrinks down to the size of the smaller one? maybe youre hitting too early or too late (1. one is more likely)

I too was pressing the prompted button too early (‘premature execution’?), and once I waited until the inner circle was active, all was fine. One orc survived about 6 encounters before I read this thread and realised what I was doing wrong. Thank you! :)

Gah... yeah - its confusing, you just get the "X" flash up and you think..hit X now, now, now! - I don't recal being told to wait until the big circle shrinks... which makes it so easy - it may as well not be there :o (not that I am complaining - I have died enough through shere confusion that I am bored of that!).... got the hang of it now thanks to all for comments (sorry for slow reply)

I was also confused by this, since with the Last Chance when YOU are about to die, you DO need to hit the proper button as soon as you can (at least that's what I've been doing and it worked so far)...

I've killed Ru^g about twelve times, now and he -always- blocks me and runs away. I've been ambushed and tracked and killed two -other- Captains all while waiting for Ru^g to die. Next time, I'll let the outer circle shrink... just until it is within the smaller circle? Looks like if I wait too long it'll just time out and I'd fail -that- way... must be a damned narrow acceptable range.

Oh, its very easy... once you know what to do. Its a bit like if I tell you you have to press the magic button combination, but without telling you what it is... and if you can;t do it I call you dense. If you point out where in the game it exaplains how to do this then I will agree to be dense : ) And I mean it explains that you "wait for the circle to shrink ... etc). All you get is a screen shot of it happening which explains nothing.

Having the same issue a year and two months after your message.

Did you figure it out? - it is actually really easy once you get it. Look at the button that it asks you to press - but dont press it until the circle has shrunk inside the smaller circle.... don't just press it as fast as you can (its a sort of reverse time limit - not very obvious if you ask me)...
