It seems to have something to do with not undoing the previous actions you took for the orc follower tutorial. So I'd say try that. No guarentees, but you might have the same issue here.
I didn't have to relog or press the space bar rapidly, or verify game files, I just had to move my cursor to top of the screen. I had to keep pressing up, even though the cursor was already at the top of the screen. Eventually the screen moved up so I could see the Warchief spots.
Once I had done that, I thought "Well, let me see if I could select one of the empty Warchief spots". Initially, on the first click, it did nothing, in either spot. I then started rapidly clicking until it eventually selected the empty spot. I was finally able to send my recruit to the fighting pits.
One thing to note, in case it was not obvious to anyone: After you send your recruit to the fighting pits, you need to actually GO to the mission it creates. Once you enter the mission, you're put as a spectator. The mission may resolve without having to do this, but you may have to either win another captain battle somewhere, or die (usually in both cases battle reports come in and resolve conflicts)..
Work for me! tks!
The problem is that the banner with instructions covers this area by default.
