Allied captains killing eachother?
So I set up a 3 captain ambush and the battle became huge. After my three captains had fought a while all that was left was the enemy captain and them, but then something really weird happened. One of my captains randomly instantly executed (like head ripping ♥♥♥♥) another allied captain.

Now, some of you might say "Captains can betray you" which I have seen as well, but this guy stayed on my side. He literally just randomly decides to violently execute an allied captain in the middle of a battle then he just goes on like nothing happened.

Why does this happen? It's hilarious as ♥♥♥♥ though

Well there's friendly fire, and captains tend to execute another captain that they're fighting automatically when their health gets too low. If your guy was on a sliver of health and his buddy accidentally hit him, it might've triggered the execution?

Either way it's a bug for sure, hope it wasn't one of the guys you liked lol

If the one executed was critical health (red heatlhbar) then one of the AOE attacks may have gotten him and the execution animation started for that orc.

Nah, its called betrayal. Its not just limited to you but to other captains as well, they can have feuds with eachother. If you check your army screen you can see if they have feuds by redlines or not. If those 2 get in line of eachother they will fight it out until 1 of them is left standing.

I my self have only had betrayed personally once by olog that i had set as my personal bodyguard, ever since i stopt using them as personal bodyguards they are more focused on betraying my warchiefs which almost always pops those betrayers heads off. :P

A similar situation happened to me yesterday.
I wanted to ambush a captain. Sure, my orc sent, time to get there.
My orc got ambushed by another captain.
I branded the guy that has ambushed my orc
He kept attacking him :awkward:
A bit late at this point, but executions don't trigger with friendly fire, and this isn't a bug either. What probably happened was that the 2 friendly captains were rivals, in which case they'll get enraged and start killing each other no matter what side they're on the moment they see each other. You can check an orc's rival in the "Hates" tab for their strengths.

Basically, never have friendly rival orcs in the same place, and if they do run into each other by chance, drain one and order him to retreat unless you don't mind losing one.

I ran in to this during a fort defense mission... I was in front of the walls wreaking havoc, when I noticed captains back at the inner keep showed enraged, and then one was bleeding out. I leave the battle and run over to revive, and look for the enemy who was nowhere to be found... So I ran back to the wall, and the same thing happens 2 more times before I realized what was happening.

It can also be trait dependant. Your friendly-firing captain, did he have Rampage?
Trait: Rampage
Recklessly charges into battle, lashing out at anyone near his target, including allies.
(Usually Berserkers have this)

Oh god. I made the mistake of giving a warchief with rampage 2 body guards. The guy killed both of them in the span of 30 seconds during a siege...

If a allied captain accidentally hits another allied captain to many times, whether with projectiles, or melee, they will turn hostile onto the captain that hit them repeatedly. Its much the same concept of how you can attack a allied captain, but to many times, and they will automatically betray you on the spot.
