Graphics are worse than Shadow of Mordor
Everything in the game, from the textures, shaders, AA, SSAO, antialiasing, looks worse than Shadow of Mordor. Especially the Orcs. Hair graphics are missing, Talion's cape looks bland... I even downloaded the 4k texture pack hoping it will improve the graphics, but nothing is really changed. I can't beleive how they have taken a step back from the gorgeous looking game that was Shadow of Mordor. Everything in game is set to High and Ultra, and my 1080 does not even break a sweat running the game, before someone says i don't have the PC to handle it.

I'm in the fence about refunding the game. Can someone that has played the game for more than an hour tell me if at least, in later missions/maps, the game looks better?

inb4 graphics are not important. If this would have been the predecesor of Shadow of Mordor, i would not have minded. I expected at least the same level of graphics from the sequel, not a downgrade.

what are you specs?
Also try turning off "Dynamic Resolution". <-- it's probably that.

I've seen a few people say that this game looks worse than the first one, so it really must be a bug that people are having. I don't even have the enhanced textures downloaded and the game looks at least as good as the first one, and better in most cases. Talion's face especially is much better looking.

As Zirael said, try checking your dynamic resolution, and the game also apparently doesn't do well with certain monitor resolutions so that might also be the case

what a joke. i've refunded it. i don't feel like this is worth 60 euros. Nioh is coming out on the 7th, and i'd rather spend my money on that. i invite you guys to replay shadow of mordor, in parallel with shadow of war, and see which looks better. i actually played some today, waiting for shadow of war to download, maybe i would not have remembered otherwise, but the difference is quite noticeable.

Its not his computer. Shadow of War's graphics have no depth or decent lighting or any style really. Shadow of Mordor had this moody interesting look and Talion had hair that looked like hair. In SOW everything looks worse to make up for more open world but its not a fair trade off really.

Yes, thank you, you hit the nail on the head. That wonderful depth, moody lighting, the rich shaders, and colors in Shadow of Mordor impress me to this day. Everything looks flat in Shadow of War. As i've said, if not for the previous game, i would have probably been okay with the graphics. But you cant expect a shiny new 2017 sequel to look worse than it's 3 year old predecessor.

I refunded it and changed my mind and kept playing war because the nemesis system is still fun. Gave shadow of war a chance. Act 4 ruins it anyway. SOM>SOW The Orcs look so damn detailed in SOM

Yeah, they do. They seem more diverse in shapes and sizes, and, i feel like also in weight. Animations in SoW feel a bit "lighter". And orcs don't show as much feeback from your hits as well. I will probably buy it during a sale, at some point. Who knows, maybe they will actually improve the graphics, it's been done before in other games. Here's hoping.

Yes! The weight in the combat is gone. I don't know what happened. Oh well, its the best time of the year for gaming at least.

graphics might be worse but I can play shadow of mordor on medium 45-60 fps and only play this on low and get 40 average fps
Jonny Sparta Oct 31, 2017 @ 8:25pm
yea well triple the features.. fighting 40 orcs and 3 bosses with my 10 foot tall bodyguard while riding a graug then jumping off to fire arrows in slow mo then shadow strike chain, drain, and teleport to the dam dragon i just summoned.. above 80fps the whole time. And on a patch that's apparently caused a hit to fps. The amount of ♥♥♥♥ i can do with this combat system kinda makes me laugh at all my other games.

u really want better graphics just use an post injector program like reshade or enb basically anything you can see with ansel effects reshade or enb can do in gameplay.

Obs you're obsessed into getting kink-mods like Skyrim's 50% sexually explicit modding content... If you care THAT much for "graphics"....

(^^^ That was a joke btw, because it's actually true for Skyrim ^^^)

You say graphics are not important.... when complaining about them and saying you wouldn't purchase it for the "bad graphics", when it's better than your usual, everyday game's graphics... I believe it is important to you from what you're suggesting.

You need to make up your mind if you want an actual answer, are they important to you or are they not?

Also, the only reason it looks "worse" is because Monolith are using a completely different design art style with graphics and lighting designs... more diverse-capatible, unlike Shadow of Mordor's constant darkened skies.

This. I noticed his contradiction as well lol. Also the graphics are fine honestly, and they look better at some points IMHO.

If anything it's just less gritty looking. Worse looking it is not. Talion's face looks better in SoW IMO for example. But the lighting and coloration of him look better in SoM. I think SoW when put against SoM just looks too washed out and not as sharp. Short of stacking them sided by side though it's not noticeable really.

So far as which one is better is personal preference I suppose. Though not playing it and/or refunding it over this is pretty regoddamndiculous if you ask me.
