Why is Celebrimbor a wraith? Why doesnt he die when Sauron does?
I assume it is because of the way he died coupled with the fact that he wore the one ring for so long and it corrupted his soul. I assume he is bound to the one ring as much as Sauron is, and cannot truly die until the ring (or rings...since he created them all) is destroyed. If that holds it does explain why Celebrimbor, as a wraith, has the personality he has. He is part Sauron, like the story tells you. Why doesnt he die when the ring in undone? Im not sure there are any real answers out there but was wondering what you all think?

Its most likely due to his ring that he made to house himself. As his "lifeforce" is imbude in the ring which prevents him from going into the Elven afterlife, and as such keeps him in the mortal plane.

But he is a wraith in the first game, before his new ring is ever created.

I was listening to some old LOTR lore last night and here's my take

There are 2 places of afterlife in LOTR since i don't remember the names.. i'll call these places limbo and rebirth on the immortal island, which is a physical place on.. planet LOTR.. forgive the lack of lingo

souls goto limbo first upon death and if they are judged as good they are reborn to a new body on the immortal island if not they stay in limbo

The ritual done to Tallion at the beginning of Shadow of Mordor summoned Celebrimbor into Tallion's body. So he must not have been reborn into a new body on.. immortal island.

Implying that Celebrimbor was not deemed as good by the gods of middle earth

@Jonny
I agree, Celebrimbor did not die a "good" elf. Was that due to wearing the ring? his actions against Mordor? some combination of the two?

i think he as pretty close to being one of 'the servents of sauron" and thats not a good thing, but my final point i think has a lot of room for interpretation.

perhaps he was denied because the results of his deeds had still not yet played out, or perhaps because he 'yet still had a role to play' like golum
