Hammer vs. Bow Question
The hammer 'reads' like it is ♥♥♥♥, when compared to the bow.. Why would anyone want to use the hammer? Do any of you use it?

Hammer does splash damage. So it tends to be effective when you're dealing with lots of grunts.
Also a lot of hammer effects kick in from charged shots, like explosions or freezing nearby enemies.

Bow is great for single target damage, hammers let you squish groups.

Oh, okay.. I doubt you can use useful skills like 'pin' with a hammer tho, right? Or shooting into the fire to explode from a distance/chain shadow strike, etc..

I believe pin actually still works... at least the game doesn't say you can't do it. :p

Thanks you for your response lord, I appreciate it.

Pin still works. Headshots still work too, but you don't seem to get Headshot kills on captains.

I'd say hammer's best if you often attack groups from overhead, since you can easily target whoever's in the middle. Arrows work well when shooting at ground level since you can shoot through a group. Eventually you can take out multiple grunts by shooting a single arrow through their chests.

Yeah, I just think bow is much better.. You can even do aoe with it.. might shot (edit: can blast aoe fire or poison, and frost), and the jump + right click + x to slam into the ground doing damage and stunning them.. There are a lot of useful abilities with it, like the shadow strike chain, where you can 1 hit kill multiple in a chain, depending on focus level, etc.. But yeah, pin is useful as well.. I find it interesting that a hammer can do that tho, haha

well technicaly pin freezes the enemy leg to the ground so i do not see why the hammer could not do that. (it's magic ^^)

When you say it like that, I see your point (regarding pin).

The hammer also knocks captains over if you get a fully charged headshot on them, so you can smack them in the face, hit them on the ground, smack them in the face, hit them on the ground, etc

I'm a bit late but i was searching for is skull hammer the best ranged weapon and ended up here and now i realise its called Almsgiver not skull hammer but since I'm here then bow is ok but this hammer destroys, dumped my legendary bow for this straight away, no contest in my book, only tricky bit was killing people while under 25% health and constantly getting ambushed

How do switch between Hammer and bow?
Is there a long bow and short bow option?

Been a long time since I've played (nice necro) but as I recall, the hammer was just a different option for a ranged weapon. You can't have hammer and bow equipped at the same time, you choose which one you want to use in your inventory. I don't think there was a Long Bow and Short Bow option, basically just short bows.
Thanks Krono.
