No becauser Gandalf is a God somehow so you can't be a God unless you're using Godmode like those wussie at E3 showing off their misconcepted skills to us all
Our ring is going to be really powerful for sure, but it was made by an elf and his power has limits.
Sauron is a Maiar who once served the God of Crafts Aule - and since he forged the One Ring, it is many, many times more powerful than anything Celebrimbor could ever create. Maiars are quite powerful, but they're just mere servants of the Valar who are the ones who created the world and all that's in it save for men and elf.
Sauron originally served Aule and learned how to craft weapons and armor that only a God could forge. Later he was seduced by Aule's brother Melkor, the Dark God. Sauron proved useful to Melkor, and was made a lieutenant in the armies of hell. The other Valar watched for a time from their safe haven, Valinor. They watched as Men and Elves tried to fight against Melkor (or Morgoth, as he was known at the time)- but Melkor created the orks and dragons. He had turned legions of men to his purpose. All was lost when the Valar took pity on the world. They came aross the land and cleansed all before them in righteous might. Morgoth's armies blew away like burning leaves in a strong wind.
Melkor had spent so much of himself on creating these armies to fight elves and men that his powers were greatly diminished and he was no match for his brothers and sisters who had been saving themselves for ages. Melkor ran and hid in fear in his deepest lair, but the Valar found him even there. They struck him down, hewed his feet from his body, then took his crown from his head and beat it into a collar around his neck. Aule used a special chain he had forged and hooked it to Melkor's new collar. Then the Valar dragged him away in front of everyone and opened a door to the Infinite Night where God lives and kicked his ass out of the galaxy.
Then after that was all over, Sauron came out of hiding and took over some bits and pieces of Melkor's power.
