Share Your Family Story
Survivors,

In our earliest playthroughs of Sheltered, we found that the stories we created whilst playing the game were amazing, hilarious and often extremely emotional. From an all-girl family that killed every male they encountered to a horrifically short story of a family who lacked the resources to fix an oxygen filter.

These stories helped us to understand what made Sheltered an awesome game to play. So, with this in mind, we want (and need) you to share yours!

The best of your stories will be shared on Twitter and, if we get some really great epics, we'll even highlight them in weekly announcements here on Steam.

Tell us how you died, how you're surviving, who you've met, what they did to you and what you hope the end of your story will be.

Over to you...

I'm not gonna lie. When I saw that the Pre-Alpha was released this morning in my email box. It scared the crap out of me. Certainly was not expecting this.

Anyway, keep an eye on this post. Once I've had some time to play I will edit this.

This sounds like a great feature to build into the game. Make the family journal, or highlights from it, immediately shareable.

Just wanted to share my own story, because it's somewhat tragic and hilarious!

Day One:
Entered the shelter. Set up power. Built a spare water butt as it was raining, then built a bucket toilet. Couldn’t build a shower, I neglected my fung shei.

Day Two:
Dad (Margaret) heads out on an expedition. Finds a small house with a girl in it. She’s violent. Dad subdues her, takes her food, sand and coals.
Meanwhile, Mum feeds the dog. Child 1 (who shall be unnamed for legal reasons) crafts a snare and plants it outside. Child 2 (who is just unamed) upgrades the generator.

Day Three:
Dad comes back due to a full inventory. Has nowhere to sleep. Child 1 crafts sleeping bag for him whilst Dad eats. Dad gets food poisoning. In retrospect, this appears to be because I put the toilet next to the pantry.
Later, Mum gets food poisoning. This appears to be because Dad vomited all over her. I don’t know how to clean up the puke because I didn't check the keybindings, so I just leave it there. Dad goes to sleep.

Day Four:
I desperately need a shower but have no space to build one, and not enough materials to expand the shelter. All inhabitants are filthy, there’s food remains on the floor along with the vomit. I rearrange the shelter to move the bucket toilet away from the pantry, for what it’s worth.
Dad wakes up, I feed him, give him water and he is no longer sick. I send him to look for more resources, hoping to find limestone for cement. He finds a trader, she doesn’t have anything I need.
Meanwhile, child 1 collects a rabbit caught in the snare. Grim.
Child 2 is holding up well, she sets about fixing the oxygen filter which is already damaged.

Day Five:
Everyone is filthy and the shelter is an absolute state. Mum still has food poisoning and is trying to sleep it off. The dog whines for food, but I’m not sure we have enough. 3 rations left.
The kids need to sleep but Mum still hasn’t woken up, she’s been asleep since yesterday afternoon, and I'm getting worried. Dad still hasn’t come back or reported in.

Bad times!

Nice. I'll set up a feature request thread for gems like this!

Day 1: Got settled in built a bucket toilet and a snare trap

Day 2 Caught a elk in snare which looked like it was missing skin.

Day 3 While out on a run dad and young daughter Richard found a almost naked man screaming about people.

Day 4 Richard wonders out into the irradiated wasteland to stare off into the distance and gets radication poisoning

Day 5: Wasted Anti-rad pills on daughter and built a shower

Day 6: Found a nice man looking woman called nancy and built 1 bed for 6 people

Day 7 Built serveral improvements raising hopes and dreams

Day 8 Met a friendly man looking man called Greg

Day 9 Have a great shelter with good amout of food and comfort thought i Paused the game to eat.

Day 12 Your family is Dead! Yay!!

I may never know what happened but such is the tale of the wastes.
Plastic doesn't spawn in my world and I can't make gas masks so I'm currently struggling with radiation sickness everytime I go outside and I'm at day 39 atm.

Currently at Day 96. The youngest daughter is the only surviving member of her family, her mother having been stabbed in the neck by a hobo, and her father's and brother's heads smashed in by a maniac wielding a sledgehammer. She's now in the care of two women who are certified badasses, and they traverse the wastes to scavenge for the parts and supplies necessary to not only survive, but thrive in the current apocalypse. Just finished upgrading to the Level 3 Workshop and found my first car part: a tyre!

On my first playthrough I ran out of water trying to shower and meet bathroom. On my second playthrough I was smarter about resource management.

I thought it was really cool having all of my family members rush to use the shower and toilet during rain. Definitely felt the survival theme. I also built an extra water tank, so I was able to trade some of my extra filtered water to a passing trader.

Lesson learned: Never leave the Shelter without a good Axe (or a Shotgun, or a Rifle or whatever, just something that hurts really really bad if you need it)

I was playing my first round of Sheltered and I'm still in it, my family ran low on food so I send the Dad out to a house which I found on the expedition before.

He was so close to the house when I got an incoming call, there is somebody and they saw him.

Okay, calm down, meet them. Definetely the last time that I will do that :D
3 nice looking women who told me pretty fast that I'm going to die...well without a weapon, so RUN!

The screen goes black aaaaaand...they are back...stabbing my character but he blocks it like a hero, next escape aaaaaand

they are back again, holy moly those women could win the olympic medal in sprinting.

But my character kept blocking and I could escape a third time!

I guess bad luck kroko is the right name and you can guess what happened, they got him again and killed him.

Well, without masks, a bag or even medicine it's pretty dangerous to go out there again.
The biggest problem: I'm running low on water and don't have a location where I could find something...

But my family will fight, I'm on day 19 and it won't be their last day! Always keep fighting.

Loving the stories so far, guys! It's really cool to hear about all of your different experiences. :steamhappy:

This is the worst feeling ever. I've been in this situation quite a few times, and it feels great when you've got about 5% health and manage an escape on the final attempt.

Ohh yeah, I was in this "whyyyyy?" situation for like 5 minutes and I thought he will made it out alive, but I won't give up and I really like this game so far, especially that you have to fight yourself through hard times

These stories just sold the game to me. I'm in.
