Shelter Doors
It would be a little easier if doors weren't unable to be closed while corpses are located around them. I had a great game going until I sent two expeditions, one ending with someone getting 2 shot by a sledgehammer guy, the other getting two shot by a pipe weliding crazy, which left me with a healthy child and an adult who was already under the effects of rad poisoning (because gas masks are bloody hard to keep up with when plastic is so scarce) who happened to die right next to one of the exit doors. Previously I had someone return from an expedition a few weeks ago who had died right as she was entering the shelter, which kept the one door proped open. Since now I was down to one child who couldn't harvest corpses because it seems only adults can do that, it pretty much ended my game.

It is a tricky situation, I'll admit. We have to stop the doors from closing on characters, who are halfway through the door, to avoid a host of other issues.

In that situation your only hope would be to get a recruit visit the shelter and accept them. Then you get them to go on clean up duty :D

Or you could have the door push the corpse out of the way, or you could have people who die in doorways collapse slightly to the left or right, instead of coming up with weird workarounds for the player.

If that is the case, then the game should wait to check alive/dead status until after the character has cleared the doorway. In short, the game should be coded so that it is impossible for a character to die in the doorway.

This should not create any exploits where a player keeps a "dead" character alive indefinitely, either, because as far as I know there is no way to force a character to stand in the doorway. If by some miracle a player did manage to accomplish it, the character would eventually wander out anyway (and immeidatley die).

One possible solution would be to allow Children to perform tasks that only adults can, but cause them to receive more trama for it, such as in this case dealing with a dead body. I'm honestly fine with how the doors work at the moment, and I'm a little concerned if the mechanic is changed it might cause problems somewhere else. My two cents.

Also, Please don’t take this the wrong way, but looking at your screen shot, It looks like your game wasn’t going to last much longer anyways. I hope you’ll allow me to offer a few tips.

I noticed that by day 52 you only had built one extra water storage unit. And that you are using fairly inefficient toilet and shower.

That seriously limits the range at which you can explore. Were you able to find your first town with the limited amount of water you had? (they can be found in clearings i.e. not mountains, not forest, within about 50 water units of your starting location) It’s a good idea to find a good sized town before the 2nd or 3rd week, as that’s when the game starts to get harder, black rain, more aggressive people ect.

Also usually in exploring a town you’ll find anywhere from two to five masks. Often you’ll find them in florist shops.

Also I noticed that you upgraded your power generator and painted your walls. Early on storage space is at a premium and bringing back cans of paint usually isn’t worth it till you are more established.

As for the generator, the starting out level is usually fine until you get much further in the game, and even then I wouldn’t bother to upgrade it with anything except ‘efficiency’ unless you have the resources to spare.

I hope that those tips help.

Post Script: I completely agree, plastic seems to be very rare, It would be nice if more of it was found in factories, or if there was a specific location that specialized in that loot, such as a recycling center in the major cities.

The balance of materials that in real life are ridicously abundant (plastic, wool, wood) and in game are needed in ridiculous amounts, needs to be addressed. Why should I have to go someplace special to find plastic? Right now it feels like I find plastic in the same amounts as circuit boards.

I think the best course of action would be for the doors to slide the bodies out of the way. We will look in to trying to implement this. Otherwise, we will explore other solutions like the ones suggested :)
