This War of Mine vs. Sheltered
This game kind of reminds me of This War of Mine, judging from the trailers and screenshots. Granted, the art style is a bit different, as well as the premise (nuclear war vs. regular war), but exactly how different are they?

Any particular areas this game stands out in, compared to This War of Mine?

I think this war of mine is inteded to be a different game in general. Less flexibility, randomness and IMO replayability. I tihnk sheltered gives you a lot more to do and options. Also This war of mine is intended to be very close to reality where as sheltered is not.

Ive been following for awhile now. From what i have read Sheltered is essentially working with the same general ideas as This War of Mine. Only Sheltered is atleast attempting to take it alot farther then This War of Mine ever did. You are still surviving a war or the aftermath of it granted it is a different war in Sheltered. I think this simple fact is very important to remember, This War of Mine was not a nuclear war, Sheltered is the aftermath of a nuclear war. This War of Mine does not have radiation to worry about, Sheltered does. Sheltered also makes you micromanage your shelter and survivors alot more then This War of Mine. This War of Mine has a set end, Sheltered does not. From what i have read a game of Sheltered can essentially go on forever if you wanted it to and you dont get everyone killed. This War of Mine every game is essentially the same general story no matter what only with somewhat different characters from game to game. Sheltered each game can be a completely different story based on your choices. This will be especially true if the devs do add certian features that they have said they will and i am understanding things correctly.

If i am incorrect on something or have left something out would someone please correct me.

So is Sheltered essentially This War of Mine only with a different wrapper?
My answer to that is no.
Even though both games do work on the same general ideas this is where the similarities end. They are very different games and judging by what ive seen and read they play different.

One question i would like to add: Is combat turn based or not? Im just a bit confused as to whether or not it is and would like that cleared up.

This war of mine is a good game, so is sheltered. Comparing them is like comparing half life and call of duty. They may be the same genre but the theme, feeling, and executions are different.

I would support that argument. So i shall.

Aside from that, i do believe this war of mine was highly over rated for its mechanical aspect (gameplay). Once you had down the two variations and had a decent idea of how to get trough the game you can conquer it and lose no one and nothing. Don't get me wrong, it's a great experience. It's just not the amazing game people hold up to to be. I am hoping Sheltered will have a stronger system of randomization and events which will prove untamable or at the very least take longer to get trough.

This is something we have planned in the "Danger" update from the roadmap. You'll have groups of people trying to break into the shelter, and will have to plan accordingly (Hiding places, placing traps to deter, upgrading the doors themselves for greater endurance against explosives and attacks)

It's random elements that bring more danger to your home and your family that are coming and will definitely improve the game, we feel.

Sure they are.

But it is always okay to compare different but similar things! It helps me make a decision about purchasing.

Thanks for everyone's opinions, by the way. It has been highly informative. =D

Having played both quite a bit I'd say when money permits grab Sheltered as well as This War. In some ways they are similar, as mentioned above, but they both have their own direction, style and message so playing one won't ruin the experience when you play the other. Hope you have fun!

Overall I feel like this war of mine is superior to sheltered at telling a specific mostly non varying story. Almost like a partially interactive movie.

Sheltered on the other hand is superior at creating a new story, and giving you the freedom to do so.

I know, i read the roadmap. The question is if will you be able to pull it of. Game development is a fickle mistress. I've had plenty of kickstarter titles try very hard and unable to achieve it. It's just not as easy as it sounds. So when i say i am hopeful, i do mean "at the end of the road." With that said i hope the relationship with Team 17 bolsters the practicle side of things.

Keep on trucking.
