Can't expand beyond 2 levels

I can't seem to dig further than 1 level down (for 2 levels total). The ladder is always greyed out and I can't build rooms below the second level. Is anyone else having this problem or am I doing something wrong?

have you completed lvl one? because you cant dig further until you have maxed out the space there.

Thank you for replying! I figured out what I was doing wrong. I was trying to stack the ladders one on top of the other and I discovered that I had to make room on the SIDE to put the ladder there so that it could go down another level. The more you know...

Thank you for posting this: I wasn't sure how far I'd be able to expand. It's getting pretty crowded in my hatch! lol

So can you expand lower then three levels? I got the ladder greyed out now where ever I try to place it on the third level.

Yes first shelter has 4 levels. But you should expand from an empty room - so that you have the space required for the ladder / vents available otherwise you won't be able to dig down.

So - always leave 1 room empty from which to expand downards, after you digged into next level feel free to place / build objects into that room.

I found that out while testing building a new room over a new ladder. Now I got a new level! thankies for trying to help! :D

With the new shelter you can find is it bigger? And can it support more people?

ive moved for the second time and it has 5 levels also, so 5 levels is the maximum.

How do you get the Extended Family quest? Do you need to wait for the PI to come to your shelter again?

I dont know about the second shelter since I'm not that far yet. What is this about?

Also, what do you recommend for setting up defense against attacker? I just placed all the traps on the first floor.

Okay so why have a bigger base but not being able to have more people? :( Awwwww... I have around 19 people now and there literally has to be around 3 parties out at once at all times so the oxygen doesn't get all used up and everyone suffocates. I really wish we could have more people in the shelters.

the extanded family quest I finally got it last night, and was wondering what the other Shelter is like and to me its not really worth it other then boosting your family numbers and having another level to build to. To me I don't really feel like going to it cause I got to many people.
