Welcome to the Sheltered Community Hub!

This place is for you to make your own. Here you can share feedback and stories from your experiences in the wasteland, upload screenshots, fan art and videos - even create guides designed to help your fellow survivors.

The forum staff will be here too, enduring the wasteland along with you. We'll be reading your thoughts, solving your problems, laughing at your in-game misfortune and doing whatever we can do to grow Sheltered from our game into yours. You can identify us by our green and yellow usernames!

Please remember that these forums are open to everyone, so be sure to keep the language and content safe for minors. Please also make sure that you've read and adhere to the Steam Discussions Rules and Guidelines, lest the mutants eat your face for breakfast.

As Sheltered is still in Early Access you may encounter something that is technically wrong, broken or not as you would expect. We ask that you make a quick thread in the Report a Problem forum describing your experience.

It's really, really important to the success and quality of the game that you do this - and we're grateful for all of your help.

Controls
• What are the keybindings for Sheltered?

LMB = Select highlighted character (When hovering over a character) / Move character to mouse position
RMB = Open interaction menu (When hovering over a shelter object)
Q/E = Cycle through shelter characters
W/A/S/D = Camera panning
Left CTRL = Toggle camera zoom
Left SHIFT = Speed up time
G = Open/Close Stats bar and resource bar
C = Cancel assigned job
SPACE = Focus on selected character / Confirm shelter re-arrangements
HOME = Toggle character automation

• How do I change which family members join an expedition party?

You can change which character to send out by clicking on the arrow positioned in the top right corner of the polaroids.

Gameplay

• Where can I find X location to explore?

I have good news and bad news.
The good news is that the world is randomly generated on every new playthrough!
The bad news is, we can't tell you where the location you're looking for will be. It could be ANYWHERE.

• I keep running out of food!

Rather than looking for tin cans in the world, try to create your own sources of food. Rabbits are easy to catch with a snare, and snares are easy to craft!
• What do all the Character Traits/Abilities do?

Character Attributes:

Strength = Dictates damage dealt with weapons/fists. Also used to figure out if a "bully" attempt was successful.

Dexterity = Used to work out if an attack in combat hits. Also used to figure out if a "flee" attempt is successful.

Intelligence = Used in "recruitment" attempts. The higher the number the better the chance you have of recruiting them.

Charisma = Used in "trade" attempts. The higher the number the better the chance of getting "good" trades with NPCs.

Perception = This is used when searching locations and dictates your chance of item discovery.

Character Traits:

Small Eater = Food rations relieve more hunger.

Courageous = First two attacks in an "attack to kill" are guaranteed to hit.

Deep Sleeper = Tiredness stat decreases faster when sleeping.

Proactive = Moves faster in the shelter and whilst exploring.

Hands-on = Craft and fix faster.

Optimistic = Gains stress slower.

Resourceful = Higher chance of recovering more items when deconstructing objects.

Hygienic = Dirtiness increases at a slower rate.

• What do all the Character statistics mean?

Each stat controls the characters stress level. If enough of the stats are in the red then that character's stress stat will start to increase. Once the stats are out of the red the stress stat will reduce. If stress gets in to the red that character will start to suffer trauma.

• How often can I loot buildings in the world?

Buildings are generally replenished every few days. People come and go and leave and take items. So it's worth checking locations you have searched once in a while!

• How do I get rid of rats?

Cats and Dogs eat them regularly (cats are better at hunting them than dogs). So it's worth keeping your pet around for this eventuality. You can also build traps to sort out the rat problem!

To Develpoers do you think you could add a cheat menu?

I'm a fan from China and I'm looking forward to do a Chinese Language translation. Don't know if I can get some help.

I have found a few issues:

1) When I created an expidition and setting up my chracters with their equipment I had to cancle because I forgot to add the dog when I was in the map mode. I supplied the trip with 10 pistol bullets out of my 12. When I cancled the pistol bullets disapeared but everything else added was still in inventory. I lost 10 bullets wihtout firing them. Also, can you make a back button for each part of the setup process for the expidition.

2) Instead of burying the dead can their be a way that we can incinerate teir bodies them or drop them off in the whasteland?

What i would like to see from sheltered is getting the van up and running a bit easier, i am currently 538 days in and i cant find a clutch cable how rare is it? and something I would like to see and also an interesting idea is when you get the camper van running you can go further out then normal, like there is walking distance and then there is driving distance, and the van lets you go way further

Just a couple of cosmetic things, after moving to a new shelter, and before any factions show up, maybe during a scan frequencies session you get a message from the people you left behind at the previous shelter saying "Hey, the Scalpers have totally disappeared from our area, the last they were seen, they was moving of in your general direction". Also maybe some raider spys..Maybe in the game week before a raid we get a person showing up at the shelter wanting to be recruited, maybe they say something like "Thats a nice looking shelter you've got there. How many levels do you have, what kind of defenses? Can I join your group?" Then you have an idea a raid is coming soon, but if you make the mistake of recruiting them, then when the raid comes, they turn on you, doing damage to systems or fighting you. Again, just cosmetic, I already have a good idea of when a raid is coming.

I would like to suggest or request that a fire drill could be implemented for raids.

If you don't want to do it fine, but some might. I was planning for a raid, had my trap weapons in place, just had to activate the trip wires and get my characters to safety. They acted like real people under stress. I had to keep telling them what to do. The cowards curled up, others were frozen or confused. The character I had picked out to do the arming did it, but it was all much slower than I had hoped. The invaders walked past the dead fall traps, maybe injured i saw no blood, and there was a fight when they got to the second floor. The two children were still standing at the bottom of the ladder, and they fought the invaders off. It was amazing. They worked out on the heavy bag and it paid off. But if there had been a fire drill they could have learned, depending on how much repetition you put into it, they might have all survived. One of the kids died during the duel, but so did his attacker, both attackers died. They were at the ladder because they merged into the background so well I didn't see them and the traps didn't give me any more time to move them.

I am having a problem when people climb ladders where instead of showing them disappear as the move through the floors they appear as if the climbed around and in front of the floor while the ladder stayed behind it.

Please update the game on GOG also !
Has the hiding wall that you can build for your people to hide in during raids been removed? Also, it'd be very helpful if there was a feature added on the tool bar (the one that tells you how much water, food, etc. that you have) that could keep track of how many people are currently living in your shelter. There's only so many people you can have in your shelter at once with the new updates and it's difficult to remember how many people I have living in my shelter (especially when some are gone on expeditions).

Hiding wall got removed with Surrounded mode, but i think they didnt intend to remove it for Survival. Devs never acknowledged this change anyway.

As for number of survivors, you can, for now, use the Setup Expedition screen on your radio to manually count.
