cant find the alternator

i keep looking in the scrapyards for it and i just cant find it...

This topic comes up all the time regarding X. Where X is a tool or car part. It's really random. I've built the car in 30 days and I've gone almost 100 without finding even one tyre (older version). It sucks, but you just have to get lucky. Though in your case I'd say you have to stop being unlucky.

It took me a while to get one last tyre to spawn.
About 60 ingame days.

Just keep at it, suddenly it is there.

I always let 5 days pass before I revisited the spots - did some scavenging elsewhere meanwhile.

Do you have the lockpick set and metal detector equipped?

I did not see any vehicle parts until after 60 in-game days had passed. Then they suddenly started showing up everywhere. I still have not found all the parts yet and I am over day 100 now.

What reasons are there to think this actually does anything? Is there some inventory reset or just a gut feeling?

Once you are able to stay in your shelter without sending ppl out and dont starve/run out of power and water you should visit your spots and the stay in shelter some days or loot but remember to take lockpick and metal detector and on scrapyards for example take everything out dont leave stuff there may mess with the respawning i usually wait about 20 days only need the battery now ^^

I read in some other post that it respawns every 3-5 days, not sure if it is true or not. They may have randomized this number. I find 5 days to be sufficient anyways

From what I understand, the longer you wait to revisit a place, the more loot it will build up to. So, 3-5 days is not much if your looking for something special, like an RV part. Try 10+ days.

From what i understood, you just got a different batch of items every time you returned somewhere and the place never ran out of stuff ( i tried limiting my visits to 1-2 per game because this seemed rediculous), so there wasnt necessarily a reason to ever go to more than one location except to get RV parts?

It's worth mentioning that if you level up your perception you're more likely to find stuff period. And to do that, it's always a good idea to explore as much as possible regardless of time elapsed.
