Now that the latest update is out, we're gathering community feedback on the raids. A raid every week might lose the element of surprise, but it would be great to hear from the rest of the community on this!
What was problematic though was when a shelter member was 'murdered' despite the fact that the raiders didn't break through my first door.
About the raids i am at day 100 and i had only 1 raid from 1 guy with a pickaxe who gave up at my front door. I have guns, almost all tools, last tier workbench. It is too easy.
By Day 100 in Sheltered I should be attacked by 5-10 raiders with knifes, bats and pistols.
So lets start from the beginning.
Its day 0, i start going around the map collecting stuff, my people come back, after 2 days I send them again immediately on their way back they get followed (just like in 60 seconds if i send people out too frequently, they get followed). On day 10 they come banging on my doors threatening me for resources (like they do right now), repeating this each week. If i refuse for the third time they should initiate their attack on my shelter. So let's say its day 30, i get attacked by 2-3 unarmed raiders. I repel them.
Day 40 3-5, with some melee weapons and so on. Each week or ten days I should get attacked, if I want these attacks to stop I should attack their base, shelter or headquarters. Loot it, so they should stop attacking for some time or burn it to the ground so they stop completely but I cannot come back to get some good loot. If i have the resources I should hire another faction to do this instead or try to bribe the raider faction to stop their attacks (after 5-10 days they will come knocking on my door to give them more). If i keep looting another faction i should give myself a bad name and no faction should want any contact with me or possibly multiple factions turn against me and initiate raids against me.
If I destroy a raider faction i should get some reputation where bigger raider faction will now target me (or other small, medium factions will take notice of me and initiate raids or ask for resourses) that have more manpower and better weapons while in the same time neutral factions ask for help if we help we create alliances where they can help us in some way for an example give us food or help us repel raiders (get help from them by getting X amount of their guys to help us fight off raiders in my shelter depending how big the faction is, the bigger the more manpower, resources i get but harder to get friendly with them) or ask them to raid another faction which is raiding us.
One problem would be that you can only send couple of you own guys on expedition so it is not feasible to attack a raider base with just 2 guys (if they have like 15 guys in their shelter). Or maybe the base is being guarded by only 1-5 guys while the other 1-10 guys are scavenging at the wastelands at that moment so it is feasible to attack their base with 2 well prepared and equipped guys. But if you have allies you can ask them to send their 1-3 guys to help you on the raid, this way you amass manpower but of course the raider faction may have some friends as well to ask favors from.
So to summarize, we need:
-More frequent raids, with bigger number of raiders
-Diplomatic system with other factions which include:
1.Being able to ally a faction, ask them for resources, ask them for help to defend your shelter or ask them to raid another faction. (of course they will ask of you the same from time to time)
2.Being able to loot or burn shelter (Burn shelter: ~80% possibility to destroy a faction)
-Reputation system (difficulty scaling): the more you repel raiders or destroy a raider base, after some time (10-30 days) another raider faction should appear with bigger threats (ask for 15,20 or 30 cans of food etc) or they will attack with bigger numbers of raiders with better equipment or multiple factions turning against you if you keep looting someone or have too much resources so you get multiple raids from different factions.
-If I get looted and or get some huge losses like 30% of my guys are killed, other 50% knocked out and 20% taken away from them (maybe also add rescue mission?) the raids should stop because they know we have nothing and are not interested for now, for at least 2 weeks until they come to keep banging on the doors for resources.
-Later in game when our shelter is full we should be able to migrate X amount of people to another empty shelter (abandoned shelter that we found or shelter from a destroyed faction). The new shelter under your own faction will be autonomous it will act as an allied shelter but you can see how much resources they have and take/supply freely.
This way you will be able to handle for an example at day 500, 30-40 raiders attacking your main base, you ask for your allies and your other shelters for help they each send 2-3 guys and the fun starts lol. If your main shelter gets burned, ie everyone is dead there you should take control of one of your other shelters so you can have a sweet revenge or maybe take back your old shelter from their control and populate it. Depending where their borders are.
ps. bear and wolves are so easy, I instantly killed them with a hatchet from my first turn, in real life a bear could take like 10 hits from a hatchet while in the case with the wolf I could miss him 70% of the time.
pss. trading is too easy, i just have to build a lot of water butts, amass water and then just buy off everything i need from any trader, make it so that some traders don't want water because they are full of it, others desperately need it but cost should stay at 2 and normally water should be traded for 1.
when you have upgraded the workbench to max or so.
describtion of the flag: once you've gotten a hold of yourself, time to make a reputation of yourself. build this to taunt other factions and lure them to their demise...
it would be a great improvement!
Also i think that you should be able to create your own faction in the world and start sending your people in your shelter to aid or live in these new 'shelters' or 'headquarters'. and have some button that takes you (you as in the camera, not a charachter) from the different bases.
this will not only make it more interesting, but also makes it more challenging.
maybe the 'taunting flag' can be the way to make your faction?
and call it 'faction flag'
describtion of the flag: once you've gotten a hold of yourself, time to make a reputation of yourself. build this to taunt other factions and make a stand to become stronger then rome!
It would add another level of thinking required, as you would be exposing your location/risking more raids the more you went out.
Though, I think some kind of notification needs to be added for new players to remind them to build some kind of counter-incursion traps. The very first time I was raided, I had never built a single trap yet. Fortunately the raiding pair got bored on the second door.
