Mysterious Orb?

What does the little orb thing do, if anything? I've found it twice in 2 playthroughs. I don't want to get rid of it if it does anything cool.

I kept it in my backpack on a solo run, all the way to the reef. Nothing happened, no secret ending, no special events.... I think it might just be a blob. It's kinda cute at least.

Just like you except I took two other passengers with me. I hope this thing is the cause of a hidden end. It may be missing an action or a place to visit :)

My dog is holding two of them, and one of my humans is carrying a third. We shall see...

EDIT:
I was able to give pets to the aliens that look similar to the orbs, just like dogs! Is that a normal thing you can do, or something enabled by orbs? Definitely nothing else in the final zone, though. :)

That's not something you can do usually, but I'm glad you can with the orb! They always felt so friendly

Never saw the orb on my only run of the game (it was a winning run), and I was able to pet them.

The friendly aliens in the Reef are always able to be pet so long as you're not holding a weapon in your hands (not on your back) when you're next to them. They also light up the tiles immediately adjacent to themselves in nighttime levels. The worst they can do is pile up around you and stop you from moving.

I heard (but I have yet to test it out) that carrying a mysterious orb makes monsters not follow you. There's also a skill that does this, I forgot what it's called, but my experience with that skill is that you still might get attacked if a monster is right next to you, they just don't zone in on you if you're further away.

Oh that's interesting! I've had the skill before. I can't recall anything like this working for me, but I often kept it on the car rack. I'll try this out and report back

I can indeed confirm that whenever you are holding an orb, the aliens don't recognize you (or at least their are no noises coming from your character). The little rings that signify sound do not appear when holding one. Don't know what happens to the aliens though whenever all members of a party hold one.

Also, placing one on the ground acts as bait for the creatures, without the sound that accompanies a radio
