Did you happen to use the notorious "Big Icon Set"? That one uses rips from Fire Emblem, Ragnarok, and various artists, so you might want to look at an alternative set of icons if that's the case.
Anyway, I do not know if the icon set I used is the notorious "Big Icon Set" or not, but here is the link to where I got them: http://www.rpgmakervxace.net/topic/5095-object-character-sets/ Is this the "Big Icon Set"? If not, how many of these icons do you know are copyrighted? Like, I don't doubt what you're telling me is true, but I'd rather not go back and redo every single icon for my game unless they are ALL stolen from copyrighted material.
Either way, as soon as we find out which icons need to be replaced (which could mean all of them), then I will replace them with original or commissioned pixel artwork. And, again, thank you SO much for letting us know. :)
That isn't the set that I was specifically talking about, but it certainly does have a number of rips in there. In situations like that, it's best to err on the side of caution, in my opinion. The person said they didn't know where the majority of the work came from, which is a pretty big red flag.
If you haven't already had a look, there's a large list of icon resources on the official forums http://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?/topic/27484-icons-and-balloons/ that might have some things you can use, uploaded by the actual artists. The last time I looked, a lot of them were free for commercial use.
