We're making excellent progress on two major enhancements for our AI storybook game! Here's a peek behind the scenes at what we're working on.


We're completely transforming how our stories remember details with a new Graph-based Retrieval Augmented Generation (GraphRAG) system. This creates a dynamic knowledge graph that tracks:

• Characters and their evolving states
• Locations and their properties
• Items discovered throughout the adventure
• Key events that have occurred

Instead of each page being generated with only the last few pages in mind, the system builds interconnected nodes and relationships, allowing stories to maintain remarkable consistency. Characters will remember past interactions, locations will persist with their unique attributes, and past events will influence future developments.
Alongside this, we're implementing a structured three-act narrative framework with distinct story beats. Each beat includes:

• Key characters involved in the scene
• Specific locations
• Suggested events that can unfold

This means stories will have better pacing, more compelling arcs, and increased narrative coherence as you play through them.
Building these systems hasn't been easy! We've tackled:

• Knowledge graph construction: Creating a dynamic graph that evolves as the story progresses
• Text embeddings: Using semantic embedding vectors to find related story elements
• Robust JSON parsing: Building a resilient parser that can extract meaningful story elements from imperfect LLM outputs
• Beat completion detection: Cleverly detecting when you've satisfied the requirements of a story beat

As these updates launch, you'll experience:

• Stories that truly remember details from earlier pages
• More coherent narratives with classic story structure
• Characters who maintain consistent personalities and motivations
• Locations that feel more like real, persistent places
• Items that remain in your inventory and have ongoing significance
• Plots that build toward meaningful climaxes

We're particularly excited about how these systems work together - when you make unexpected choices, the story will dynamically replan its future while maintaining all the relationships and knowledge it's built up.
