STAR WARS™: TIE Fighter Special Edition

STAR WARS™: TIE Fighter Special Edition

Tie Fighter 98* Version "Original Music Restored Mod."
Improved voice files AND THE RESTORED SCORE FROM THE ORIGINAL are now available through an updated, GOG-specific release of the TIE FIGHTER RE-CONSTRUCTED project. This includes higher-quality voice recordings for all briefings and messages (restored from the previous CD-ROM release). Even better, it changes the music back to the original(ish)* score, remastered with much better samples and fidelity, through Daniel ‘Yitzchak’ Bennett's TIE Fighter RE-Orchestrated project.

*(I say "ish" only because the score had to be "baked in" to digital audio files since the engine no longer supports the interactive MIDI iMUSE dynamic score system. But don't let that deter you-- this score gets you WAY closer to the original experience, and is not to be missed.)

This is a simple modification-- all you have to do is download the ZIP, and replace the contents of the included folders in your GOG installation. You don't even have to mess around with CD images or anythhing-- they made it super simple to drag 'n' drop your way to Imperial Glory.

What it includes:
- Re-orchestrated music tracks by Daniel 'Yitzchak' Bennett based on the DOS version of Tie Fighter. This restores the awesome original soundtrack of Tie Fighter (which was removed from the Windows version in favour of John Williams' score). However, it is not dynamic like the DOS version
- Menu music is MUCH higher quality
- Higher Quality speech based on the DOS CD edition of the game
- Patch by Pete Jatz which fixes some issues with the music in the game and restores some spots where music was not playing in the Windows version

Executor-sized thanks to GOG user InfinityBCRT and the crew who put this together and made it available to the community, including musician Daniel ‘Yitzchak’ Bennett. Great work all-around for helping restore this classic!

Also in have combined dynamic battle music into one big audiofile. If anyone wants it i will upload it.

That would be awesome!

Executebale (rename to tie95.exe) https://fex.net/get/108273443318/230346011
There are 2 executables - one is for disk version and the other is for GOG that i use in Steam too.
File also have patch applied that fixes ISDs that could not fire their lasers

Overwrite existing folders.
The music does not have any additianal cool effects because i wanted to feel the old times when i played it using Creative SWAWE32 soundcard.

Hi, I was trying to download the package but the file transfer always stops at some point. I was able to get into the archive and download 3 out of 4 parts separately (execs, voice and missing LFDs) but was unable to download the MUSIC archive that weighs at around 300MB - it stops at 17.1MB.

Could you reupload it to different file sharing site?

Thanks.

Hey thanks for the liink it works fine.

I added a fix from teleguy for looping music (hexedit TIE95.exe ->WIN32.dll), don't know if it's nedeed but I already dropped all those .dll files from vogons.

I have double cursor in menus, any fix for that?

Yeah, I did a complete playthrough of USNF and its expansions. I also asked you about this music mod in one of your YT videos as well :steamhappy:

Anyway thanks for the link!

I haver have double cursor. For TIE Fighter i use dgvoodoo2 wrapper. I recommend you to fond the best wrapper for yourself if you want to enjoy hardware acceleration and proper gameplay. Also there is 60FPS patch somewhere. Havent tried it tho.

Delete the ddraw.dll from the game folder
or
replace it with one from the 3D fix thread
or
enable softwarecursor (instructions can also be found in that thread).

Thakns teleguy for the info, but when I deleted ddraw.dll the game wouldn't start.

I copied ddraw.dll and d3dimm.dll from dgvoodoo 2.53 I was using for Jedi Knight.

Works fine no additional cursor is visible, but I think 3d acceleration doesn't work - it looks the same as software 16bit, but to be honest I don't mind the software mode. To me it looks sharp and crisp without the texture filtering.

Hey GamePlayShare, I noticed that there was no music playing during campaign ending cutscene (where you get the medal and the Emperor's inner circle "tatoo"). Any fix for that?

Also, is there similar music restoration mod for X-Wing1998? I noticed you had original midi music playing in your YT vids?

And once again thanks for the mod for Tie Fighter - it plays almost as good as the original DOS version now (if it was dynamic it would be perfect, but it's still better than Williams music score), why this game wasn't remastered for todays hardware? It's so good. I guess we will have to wait for XWVM Tie Fighter Edition ;)

Was there any music without the mod? I just digitized midi music. Maybe there were no music there originaly and the person who made this music patch did not add it there.
As for X-Wing, I am in the process of creating same mod for this game too. But unfortunately i don't know assembler and can't make same patch like it was made for TIE Fighter. I am trying to add the music by editing LFD files. The music in the video was added in the video editor except the battle track.

I'm not sure if the music was there in 1998 version, so probably you're right.

Ah yes, I think I already asked you that one year ago in one of your X-Wing vids ;)
