STAR WARS™: TIE Fighter Special Edition

STAR WARS™: TIE Fighter Special Edition

Do I really need a Joystick?
I just bought the game and when I try to run special edition, it just gives me a message "Make sure your joystick is plugged in and working" then the game won't run. I ran Tie Fighter Classic, it would boot up and play fine. What gives?

I heard grumblings on a another thread, about the 95 collectors edition not being included, but this is supposed to be the 98 version and people also said I could play on keyboard and mouse, as well as remap keys as I liked. Do I have to go out and fork out for a joystick that costs more than the game does?

It's worth getting a joystick http://www.amazon.com/Hercules-2960706-Thrustmaster-T-16000M-Flight/dp/B001S0RTU0

This stick will change the feeling of flying games completely and is worth every penny.

The 98 version requires you to use a joystick or a gamepad, wheras the 95 and 94 version lets you use a KB and mouse. What I just said also appears on the store page.

You should have bought this game on GoG. It includes the superior 95 version.

Well, I also play Elite Dangerous and I intend to get Star Citizen too when its more developed, so investing in a joystick now is probably a wise move anyway.

1998 version has mandatory joystick requirement but '94 and '95 versions can be played with kb &m setup. I'm not sure which version you get on Steam. GOG includes all three in a purchase. You should get a joystick regardless of version. This game was made with it in mind.
These games were made with joysticks in mind and they are fairly difficult so to get a proper experience u should seriously have one.
(Back in the days joystick control was still the Nr1 control scheme for gaming on computers)

Well i play the old DOS version with Keyboard+Mouse and was nice once you lear to handle it, the joystick take the experience of flying a Tie Fighter or X Wing to a new level, i never know why lucas arts (in that moment) never give us the choice to select the control type.
