Comparison of TIE Fighter Versions (94,95,98)
This particular version on Steam does not include the 95 Collector's CD version.

For folks that don't know what that means, I saw this comparison video someone made that includes the intro for each, a briefing for each, and mission gameplay for each so you can see the difference in music/graphics, etc.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PC2i0wSVE64

0:00 - 10:32 94 DOS Edition
10:32 - 21:30 95 Collectors CD
21:30 - End 98 Windows Edition

In short: Big difference in graphics from the 94 edition compared to others, Big difference in dynamic music responding to events in the mission in 94/95 editions compared to the rehashed John Williams scores you've heard a million times in the 98 edition.

Yep.

There's (at least) THREE versions.

The DOS 1994 one - has low-res graphics (320x200) and iMuse, lacks (I believe) voiced briefings

The Windows 1998 one - has high-res graphics (640x400) (believe me, it makes a big difference in jaggies) and voiced briefings, but NO iMuse

The DOS 1995 one - has ALL of it. High-res graphics, iMuse, voiced briefings.

Gog.com literally today (april 28 2015) released the 1995 versions. They sold just the other two for a year previously. It's the one you want. You don't know epic music without iMuse. You may well feel something is lacking without high-res graphics.

i want to buy it on steam but DAMN

I jumped the gun and got the steam version, but I made the best of it.

It is possible to mod the steam classic version to use all the Collector CD assets if you have the Collector CD around somewhere, making this version into what it should be.

It's just that this is exactly what the current GOG version is and this is not without some heavy tweaking.

Hmm. Sure would be nice if the Steam version got updated the way the GOG one did. :/

Hi man, can you write a how-to on how you did it for those that own the 95 cd.

Uhhh, maybe I'm missing something, but if you already own the 1995 CD-ROM, why would you go back and tweak the original 1994 version?

I personally like 1998 version the best. Gouraud shading of '94 and '95 versions doesn't sit that well with me and I can live without iMuse. After playing '98 version since November '14, going back to '95 version feels like going to an inferior version.

the floppy disk had no voiced breifing but the cd version did (i'm ancient and remember saving up for it, only to get the 1995 version)
