Modern joystick support?
I remember not being able to get USB joysticks to work properly in my old CD. Does this new version fix that?

I can't answer for the steam version, but I use my xbone controller for the GOG version
It does work with a USB xbox controller and has some buttons already preset. Im having difficulty re-mapping them though.

Is it playable :o? I got the impression from Gog reviews that you need the old stick-thing-joystick to be able to really play it :D

USB joysticks work fine for both the 98 edition and the classic Dosbox edition :) I am using a Saitek Cyborg Evo right now.

Ah, the wonders of old games. Now that you mentioned it, the button mappings were fixed. I remember bugging parents for the original Thrustmaster FCS because that was one of the two joysticks (the other was the CH Flightstick) referenced in the X-Wing readme.txt that supported extra buttons. They were, as mentioned, fixed.

@Dr.Lawrence, you can remap controller in windows to keys like ASDFGH then remap controller ingame to those keys.

Feel free to tell us how it feels like to play with gamepad :D I don't have old joystick so I'd like to know if gamepad is good enough.

Well the left analog stick on the 360 controller already worked for steering/aiming, just some of the button mappings were a bit screwy and redundant. Flight was easy to control with the analog stick though.

I don't know why my Xwing and TieFighter doesn't work with USB xbox controller... it work with others games...

While u might get em to work with a controller its still not the best way to play this since some missions can be really difficult and often proper timing is of the essence. Aiming and trailing ships are so much easier with a stick than using a pad or keyboard and mouse.
So since the dogfighting was made with a joystick in mind i think one can only play the game to its full potential using a joystick.
But hey a joystick isnt too bad of an investment, theres some good reasonably priced ones around and it will improve most flight games or space sims massively.

I am using my USB Logitech Attack 3 and it works smoothly with this and X-Wing. Remapping the buttons is a little wonky, but man it feels good to be back in the cockpit again :smilekit:

Speaking of which, is there a way to check out your settings? Would love to put this together easier.
