Star Destroyer Shield Generators
Has anyone noticed that TIE Fighter is the only game in the series where destroying a Star Destroyer’s shield generator domes has no effect on the shields?! It would really make destroying the Glory a lot “hackable”.

I think one of the missions in X-wing made reference to a costly refit as a result of that weakness. It was also a fluke, those were meant to be sensor domes, just the timing in ROTJ where it was destroyed, then the crewman announced losing the bridge deflector shield. Had those two scenes been reversed, then this "weakness" would have never existed.

Yeah I recall the Bonus mission destroying the ISD Kotiate making reference to the upgrade. I’m just curious that they didn’t maintain this “upgrade” in sequel games of XvT and XWA, especially with the newer ISDII class.

Interesting movie fact. I never knew that! Obviously they just ran with it from that point.

Having initially played X-wing, I was surprised to see that destroying the domes did nothing in TIE Fighter.

In XvT and XWA, the ability to destroy any components was based on difficulty (only on easy in XvT, or easy and medium in XWA, if I recall correctly). The entire series takes its own liberties with game mechanics, so I don't think it has anything to do with lore. I'm sure the developers had their reasons for it, but all we can do is speculate.

True. Wasn’t aware component destruction was linked to difficulty levels. I always play on Medium. Oh well...I won’t forget my surprise in TIE Fighter after shelling out torpedos to destroy the domes and seeing the shields still up.

that's because in the old EU, those big fat round shield projectors ONLY protected the tower the rest of the ship was protected by the big belly one (where the hypermatter reactor is) tie fighter just didn't have the specificity.

well they put it in X-Wing alliance and X-Wing vs Tie Fighter...

but this is a game from 93, the others were way later.
and tbh, i love it that much more this way ;)

in a Y-Wing in Xwing alliance i can pretty much solo an ISD no problem.
just get rid of the 'shield generators', ionize the heck out of it, and then just pump massive laser enegy in it.
it works, it's ok, but it's... well a major game continuity problem.
