What does SPACE do?

I played a few levels of this game and I still can't understand what does SPACE actually do. It slows time but does it mean it alters your trajectory???
This is really poorly designed if it fails to explain it's core mechanic

It gives you a slow-mo and easier movement ability. It's very useful in levels like 1.10 and 1.9

Stuck on level 1.7. I assume I'm supposed to be using Space for something, but I can't figure out how it works.

While I'm at it; Space should recharge after dying. Having to wait 10 seconds after every reset feels like an oversight.
