Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. Can I transfer my The Settlers Online web account to Steam?
Due to technical reasons, you can neither transfer your existing The Settlers Online account to Steam, nor the other way around.

2. Help, I get this error: “Couldn’t load plug-in”!
If you get this error, the game was unable to run your Google Chrome Flash plugin. Just open the options menu (on the right side of the The Settlers Online start menu) and change the plugin setting to “Adobe Flash Player plugin”.

3. Why do I need a Flash Player plugin?
The Settlers Online is a browser game based on Flash. So your system needs to have a Flash plugin installed to run the game.

4. Do I need Google Chrome?
Not if you have the Adobe Flash Player installed. But Google Chrome comes with its own Flash plugin. The performance of this plugin is better than the performance of the “original” Adobe Plugin, at least with regards to our Steam application (our Steam application is based on Chromium – which is very similar to Google Chrome). For optimal experience, we recommend you to install Google Chrome.

5. Why does my Steam overlay not work?
The Steam overlay is maintained by Valve. Sometimes, this overlay is unable to connect to the application. This may happen if you are using the “Adobe Flash Player plugin” instead of the “Google Chrome plugin”. If you want to use the Steam overlay, please try to install Google Chrome and then restart the game.

6. What can I do when I have chosen the wrong language?
To change the language of the game, please do as follows:

1.) Exit the game and disable Steam Cloud for this game
2.) Go into your Steam folder
3.) Search for a file "language.dat" (it should contain just two letters "xx", depending on the chosen language).
4.) Delete that file (or rename it, just to have a backup)
5.) Start the game, chose the correct language
6.) Re-enable the Steam cloud if you like.

That should fix it. Note that different languages might lead you to different game servers!

7. I have a Chrome/Flash player plugin error message at launch. What can I do?
You can fix the issue “the hard” way by following the steps:
1.) Make sure the game is not running
2.) Go into the “The Settlers Online” game folder.
3.) Create a folder “plugins”.
4.) Copy the file “pepflashplayer.dll” from your Google Chrome into this new folder.
5.) Edit the file “package.json” in your “The Settlers Online” game folder and change the path to the plugin to: 'plugins\\pepflashplayer.dll'
6.) If there is no path: please add the following to the list of “chromium-args”: --ppapi-flash-path='plugins\\pepflashplayer.dll' --ppapi-flash-version=18.0.0.233
7.) The Flash Version number (18.0.0.233) depends on which Flash version you have installed along with Google Chrome.

Linux: Flash x86 on x64 system work around

1. Download flash x86 (no matter from what distro. We need only PPAPI Flash in x86 bit). Both file flashplayerplugin.so and manifest.

2. Go to game dir and find file package.json.
- edit it with any text editor like kwrite or gedit.
- find
--ppapi-flash-path='/opt/Google/Chrome/PepperFlash/libpepflashplayer.so' --ppapi-flash-version=18.0.0.233",

and change path to path where you pasted your x86 bit Flash.

Now save it and run game.

Kudos to DamonLinuxTerror who has provided the work around.

Kasperky reports "nw.exe" as a threat!
We've investigated and our virus scanners didn't throw out an alert on a (possible) threat.
Please scan the file with https://www.virustotal.com and you'll see that only 1/52 scan engines reports a threat: Kasperksy. Link to scan report[www.virustotal.com]
