Game won't stop running, can't shut down steam, will not show up in task manager or play?
So I played the game for awhile, but when I exited the game, I couldn't shut down steam because it said the game was running. The game didn't show up in task manager, so I forced steam to close through task manager. Then I restarted steam, and now the same thing is happening. It says the game is running, when it is clearly not. I can't uninstall it or run any other games. Does anyone know how to fix this? Will never play this game again!

with the new version of the STeam app deployed last Friday, this was supposed not to happen anymore. Look for "nw.exe" in the task manager and kill the task, please.

This just happened to me as well. What is worse: Even forcing Steam to close via task manager and starting it up again did not fix the issue. Without the thread here, I'd probably have given up and logged off and in again on Windows.

But when I gonna update steam it says that I most shut down arma3 and i Cant?

I had the same issue. I deleted all my blocked game files from steam/steamapps/common. There was informaion that I cant, so I enter the main game folder and I deleted files manualy. In the end, there was only one file that was working and I couldn't kill him. I writed the developer of the file and found it in task manager Processes. I forced to turn it off, and it worked for me.

i've been having this issue for a while. the game usually acts a *little* off before. sometimes pressing the home button instead of quit helps. but not allways. i wish i had a reload button to fix it. force reload.

anyway. for me the only way to fix is to restart windows. i hate doing that.

So I've got the same problem with AoE 2. I have no idea what's going on but the game just won't stop running. I mean even when I turn off my laptop, it still says I'm playing it. Anyone know how this is even possible???

This was executed very poorly in my mind. Several NW.exe processes to run a normally web based game?? Makes to sense to me. It's constantly locking up and I have manually terminate all the NW.exe processes before Steam will recognize that it's not running.

Not sure if it's whatever wrapper they are using to shove the web based game to Steam users. Rather annoyed with this while thing. I thought I was going to be able to play my existing characters through Steam. That doesn't work either. Such a shame. I enjoy Settlers, have played the regular games for years. This just leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

i just deleted my account and re-signed up thru browser. lost 2 weeks of play (31 lvls) but my guild helped me get back to lvl 31 in a few days.

in essence. i no longer use steam for this. tho steam is definately more stable. until they allow to sign up using existing accounts.... i want access w/o steam. its a FREE BROWSER GAME!

This is happening to me too, I don't understand why its so difficult to shut the program down properly.

same issue with two games so far. what was added??? it worked a couple of weeks ago without this issue. I want to rolback to previous version without the snoop bug.

Happen to me as well right now. I was trying to play the Division Beta but fail to notice that the open beta has finish. Now the game just showed running. I can't find that "nw.exe". I will kill steam windows processes instead.

thx. I found my game running in task manager processes but not as an application and it closed that way. closing steam in task manager only like minimizes it without it showing on quick bar.
