The Settlers Online

Game won't start past "This game requires the Adobe Flash Player plugin." despite working earlier
TSO has worked for me up to and including this morning. Now I suspect an update has broken it. The game starts but says "This game requires the Adobe Flash Player plugin." I have chrome installed and it worked a few hours ago, all I did was close the game and steam.

I can't access ubisoft support because I can't log in because I have no user because steam does that part for me.

How do I tell the game that I DO havew chrome installed and flash works just fine, you're detecting it wrong? :steamsad:

Had the same issue, got this from the FAQ and it worked.

7. I have a Chrome/Flash player plugin error message at launch. What can I do?
You can fix the issue “the hard” way by following the steps:
1.) Make sure the game is not running
2.) Go into the “The Settlers Online” game folder.
3.) Create a folder “plugins”.
4.) Copy the file “pepflashplayer.dll” from your Google Chrome into this new folder.
5.) Edit the file “package.json” in your “The Settlers Online” game folder and change the path to the plugin to: 'plugins\\pepflashplayer.dll'
6.) If there is no path: please add the following to the list of “chromium-args”: --ppapi-flash-path='plugins\\pepflashplayer.dll' --ppapi-flash-version=18.0.0.233
7.) The Flash Version number (18.0.0.233) depends on which Flash version you have installed along with Google Chrome.

The problem is caused by the game replacing the standard values in package.json with a nonsensical "--ppapi-placeholder" argument. It worked perfectly since release for me, until it made that change today.

Just a note. In linux, the steps are quite the same. The plugin is located (in Mint) in

/opt/google/chrome/PepperFlash/libpepflashplayer.so

Anyway, I can see the welcome screen with the news and the blue "play now" button. But when I press it, nothing happens. It worked until the "client update" this morning.

Is it because of the login maintenance or may I have to look for another cause? Thanks

I almost forgot: this game NEEDS a 32 bits flash player. So if you are using a 64 bits system you will need to download a 32 bits Chrome and use the libpepflashplayer.so bundled there. That's what I did in Mint time ago.

This morning the "client update" changed my package.json to the default Linux route /opt/google/chrome/PepperFlash/libpepflashplayer.so where my 64 bits Chrome resides. I changed the path to my 32 bits downloaded Chrome and everything works again.

After I changed my package.json, the game reverted it to --ppapi_placeholder again. This is becoming extremely annoying...

Evern in the best game in the world, you shouldent have to do what the devs should program the game to do for you...

Hey all, we are looking into it.
76561198212093227 Sep 16, 2015 @ 1:51am
Until we optimized the package to better detect the Flash player, every time Chrome was updated (or Flash), these steps above / FAQ unfortunately have to be conducted all over.
Lemon Lollipop Sep 16, 2015 @ 9:23am
It happens for me now every single time I start the game, not just after Chrome updates. One second after starting the game, the package.json is already reverted to the broken version.

Lose the flash, its buggy and causes your pc to be vunerable to malware. Most people have stopped using flash in their products because it is so old and unreliable.

There will be an update to (our, not Steam's) application soon.
